Research & Development Day - VOLK RE30 19x10 +30

RAYS Japan sent over a sample RE30, a 19x10 +30 Face 3 fitment (Will be displayed at Nisei this weekend in our booth). Apparently with RAYS Japan's research, they were adamant that this fitment was going to have clearance issues. Today we decided to test fit the wheel to see what the outcome is going to be.

We mounted on the front wheel and from the photos below, you can see that the top of the wheel was barely clearing the spindle. We even tested it under load to see what kind of clearance we can get, the wheel still rotates under load and at full lock in both directions but just barely clearing the spindle, I'm talking paper thin! In the real world, driving conditions will probably cause the wheel to rub and with a wide tire, the tire would definitely rub. We then proceeded with an 8mm spacer making the wheel fitment a +22. I actually loved the way it looked. As you can see in the photo's, the 8mm spacer created a much more aggressive fitment making the wheel stick out just a tad. This is definitely the look I'd prefer, BUT, from a manufacturer's stand point, this would be too aggressive. After further examination, we concluded that RAYS will need to change the front fitment from a 19x10 +30 Face 3 to a 19x10 +25 Face 3. This will give the wheel a slightly more aggressive appearance while clearing all the suspension components with the tire mounted on the wheel as well as any BBK. For those of you who are planning to purchase this wheel, I strongly suggest to stretch the tires to avoid any clearance issues with the spindle. If you go too wide, like a 285, than you may run into issues. I'd recommend anywhere from 255-265. Personally, I think I will be going with the stretch look with a 255. I love the stretch look. On with the pictures!

All these photo's are with the 8mm spacer making the wheel a 19x10 +22...

Then how the hell do some people run Enkei NT03's at 19X10.5" with a +30 offset and 315's!?! I thought +28-30 was a perfect offset for a slightly tucked in look suitable for big rubber.
