Don't flame, just a question, painting rims?
I know how close minded and "dead set on what they have" people can be so don't burn me.
How many people have ever thought about painting their STOCK rims? i saw some nice lookin painted stockies and I was impressed ya know. Had a nice smooth clean gloss. Opinions? Non flaming one's of course. Flamers (yes I said flamers) please just don't post to the thread. LOL! Thanx |
I have seen it done several times with paint and with powder coat! The PC can make the rim weak and can crack just so ya know. as for paint, just take it to a good shop make sure they prep them well and add a bit more hardner and a few extra coats of clear and you should be fine. If i was you i would check out the search function on the wheel thread you should be able to find what your looking for over there.
Cheers Kevin |
If prepped correctly, wheels can be painted using a good paint system and clearcoat. It can turn out good if done correctly.

Since OEM wheels come painted too, logic implies that it is a fine option. Just go to a shop that has experience in this kind of work and don't get too carried away with the color options; that is all.

I can't believe I'm participating in beating this "dead horse" again but yes, you can paint your stockies. From what I've seen on this site, its not all that uncommon... search the wheel/tire section for painted wheels rims etc... you'll see a number of guys that have done it (looks pretty good too)

I was thinkin about gunmetal or black. I'll have to check out the forums though for some instruction. Thanks.

yea i was just about to say, if i was to paint rims, it would be gunmetal with a nice gloss on it to still look OEM clean.

i painted my rims a black metallic until i decide which aftermarket wheels i want, and they turned out great for a DIY project.

I'm painting my OEM 18's on my G once it gets warmer.. There's a great DIY on g35driver.com on the whole prep process. i'll post it once driver is back up and running.

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/phot...36704_7452.jpg I had an issue with the rears cracking though. Not 100% sure why but I think I went too weak on clearcoat :o I'm powdercoating them bronze. |

It just all depends IMO. Black is popular but I'm not a fan of an solid black wheel. I think the tracks in gold look good but I'd question how it looks on touring wheels.
Touring wheels should be easy to paint :) |
