What's the widest KDW2 tire I can run with my setup?
So about a week ago I ordered some new wheels (Work VS-XX :icon38:), which I'll have by February. So until I get the wheels, I'm looking around for tires. I really want to get the BFG KDW2 tires. I was told my some people that I can only run a 275 tire in the back because the KDW2's have a really flat sidewall and will ruin my fenders, while others told me I can do a 295 with no problems. I'd like to get the widest tires possible since I'm not really into the "stretched" look. I've searched this forum and used a wheel/tire calculator and still haven't found a straight answer so I thought I'd ask some of the tire pro's here :icon39:. My car is lowered on Eibach Sportline springs which say it's a 1.2 inch drop all around, but in reality its more like 1.4-1.5 due to the Eibach springs "settling". I also have a rear camber kit (not sure how much camber I'm running) and my fenders have a somewhat aggressive roll.
Wheels specs: front: 19 x 9.5 +28 rear: 19 x 11 +23 The tire sizes I want are: BFG KDW2 front: 265/35/19 rear: 295/35/19 Can anyone tell me if I can fit those tires without problems? Like I said, I have a somewhat aggressive fender roll already. But I wouldn't mind cutting my fenders if that's what it takes to make the tires fit. Thanks in advance! |
You might have to cut the rears depending on the drop. The fronts you want are 265/30/19

35 is a little beefie for the front unless its 245-255/35

I like a 295 mm tire on a 11.0 wheel. Hate the “stretched” BS.

Not too beefy of course, but I just hate the stretched look also. I'm pretty sure I need my rear fenders cut though from what a few people have told me. I'll look into that soon |
KDW2's are good tires in the traction department but they weight a ton and are VERY noisy, specially after they have a good mileage on them. I would look for something else.

they actually look a bit weird if you ask me, and when they wear down, they look like cheapo tires. You should take weight into consideration. it affects acceleration and cornering GREATLY.

Your rims are fairly aggressive so I really doubt you'd be able to fit 295s on the back w/o rubbing, especially with the beefy nature of the KDWs. This is also assuming your car is lowered.
Another member here, AnotherAznGuy, is slammed on Stance coilovers running -5 deg camber on the rears and the max he could fit were 285/35/19s on 19x10.5 +22 wheels. This is with his fenders rolled too. |

Your front size is correct, it's the rear size that you should switch to a 30 profile..
FRONT: 265/35/19 REAR: 295/30/19 |
^^^ I've been reading up on everything wheels and tires on here lately, wouldn't that difference with a smaller rear tire diameter throw off the VDC? That's a -4% difference from the stock front/rear ratio.

FRONT: 265/35/19 REAR: 295/30/19 Front tires are taller than the rear. |

My bad for the wrong advice..
It's just that I remember seeing a 295/35 and it was kind of beefy.. |
i loved these tires for at least 4k miles now im trying to get rid of them. My road noise in the car is 95 db's because of these loud mothers. Thats enough to damage your ears just driving with the windows up its quite rediculous.

He said most people that buy these wheels from him come back after about a week to buy new tires because they can't stand the noise. |
