Wheel offset + Disc Types??(Guru's only plz)
Ok, so i've been searching for the past 4 hours not only on here but google/driver/etc. too. Trying to find a well writen explination of how Offsets and Disc types work.
I understand offsets perfectly, but am a noob at disc types, and i had thought that i understood it but as i talked to someone who supposedly knows all about it was way off even though the way he was describing it made no sense to me. So maybe i was right in understanding... I'm gonna give an example and hopefully someone knowledgeable can chime in if this is correct or not..... Example:: Would a 19x10 o-disc +4 offset, Lip would be 121mm be the same as a 19x10 l-disc -13 offset, lip 121mm (My understanding is that the second setup would extend 17mm past the 1st setup) OR From what i thought i understood was that the only thing the disc type does is determine your outter lip size? The way it was described to be was that basically offest doesnt really mean much. as the disc type affects the accual off sets. But wouldn't a +0 offset on a low disc sit the exact same as a +0 off set on a high disc, withthe only difference being the outter lip size??? Hope fully i described this to where it's understandable, my mind is trying to figure this out as im typing this, so if it doesn't make sense i appologize. :o Thanks in advance for any help!!! |
your first impressions are correct. it will extend 17mm more.
im guessing youre looking into getting work wheels? nice! which ones? O-disc is made for less brake clearance, which will provide more lip. L-disc is made for more brake clearance for people who run bigger brakes, but provides less lip with the same offsets. the disc is the face of the wheel, and will determine if the wheel will clear your brakes. hope this helps. |
just read your second half, lol.
the face will determine brake clearance. the offset will determine how far your wheel comes out past your fender. youre correct with this statement below. But wouldn't a +0 offset on a low disc sit the exact same as a +0 off set on a high disc, withthe only difference being the outter lip size??? |
Disc type includes shape of spokes. Position of spokes on barrel. Lip depth will vary.
Offset is offset. Physical center of wheel minus mounting surface. One wheel with a 20 mm offset will fit the same as another with a 20 mm offset. The position of the wheels will be the same. Spoke configuration, lip and calliper clearance may vary. |
Cool thanks for clarifying guys, my initial impressions were correct then :D
And for the person who asked, yes looking to get a set of 3pc meisters Thinking 18x10.5 +10 l-disc front 18x11.5 +11 O-disc rear Run a 255/275 |
