Painting Rims = OK?
I made a thread before about powder coating but its just too out of my price range.
A friend of mine owns a body shop and can paint the rims with the original black factory paint. It would cost 100 a rim.
First off, is painting a rim a bad idea? ****, I know people who spray paint rims. So I'm sure a rim painted with factory car paint would look good and also not cause any problems, right?
And how is that price in your opinions?
Thanks!

I'll try to find a cheaper powder coater or get the painter to go down to like 50 a rim.

wow your powdercoater is nuts.
What rim are you trying to paint?
"spraypainting" your rim isnt bad like you think if you use the correct procedures. A good 7 light coats of black paint and good 4 coats of clear coat will last you a very long time. Also it is VERY durable. I did this on my stock wheels awhile back and the 2 months I had them on they looked great and no scratches at all. There is a thread here about painting your stock wheels and its a good DIY. Good luck.

Whether painting or powdercoating, you need to pay ~$20/wheel for dismount and remount. They can be chalked, so shouldn't need to be rebalanced.
$100/wheel for paint is stupid. More like $20/wheel with good prep and paint.
I have powdercoated wheels before - $125/wheel is very fair given all the prep time and material cost.
