What size tires for my new GT-7's

I just got in a set of GT-7's and I am not sure on what tire size's to get. The rim specs are as follows:

Front - 18 x 8, 29mm offset
Rear - 18 x 9, 29mm offset

I would like to get the 245 front, 275 rear setup, but not if the offset is not going to look right. help me please!!!!

CaneZMD Sep 18, 2003 05:48 PM

I just got 245/40 and 275/40 on my 18's and it looks fine.
My offsets are 20 f and 25 rear. The tires are just about even with the fender. They are definitely farther out than stock, though. I just put them on tonight, so no pics. (sorry)

MaximumPwr Sep 19, 2003 04:44 AM

Yea I think with the 29mm front and 29mm rear will stick out to far and rub or look funny. I may just go with the 225/45/18/ front and 245/45/18 rear. OH well.

Audito350Z Sep 19, 2003 05:20 AM

actually.... MaximumPwr, your 29mm offset wheels will sit into the wheel well farther than CaneZMDs with the 20 and 25mm offsets.

You will be fine with 245/40-18 up front and 275/40-18 for the back.

Thank you fellow Houstonian. I just don't know to much about offsets. I think I read somewhere on this forum that the larger the number the farther in the rim sits inside the fender, but I could be wrong. I just don't want to go buy tires then put them on and it ends up not looking right.

MaximumPwr Sep 19, 2003 05:25 AM

And why does it still say I am a newbie. I been a member since I bought my car a little less than a year ago. I guess it is because I read alot and don't post to much.

Audito350Z Sep 19, 2003 06:07 AM

you are correct... the larger the number for the offset, the more inward the wheel will sit in relation to the car's fender. I'd say the 29mm offset you have is just about perfect and will look great on the car. Tirerack has some good info about wheels here http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm

You are correct again... the more you post, the faster you move up the rankings!

Where are you in Houston? I live way out west at Eldridge/Briar Forest and work at I-10/Dairy Ashford.

I am in clear lake, and thanks for the information.

MaximumPwr Sep 19, 2003 06:10 AM

What all have you done to your car audito350z?

Audito350Z Sep 19, 2003 06:13 AM

NISMO intake, 350EVO sway bars, 350EVO front control arm bushings, Goodridge stainless steel brake lines, MOTUL 600 brake fluid, Zred cat pipes for the track, Leather Trim Ltd. seat covers... http://www.peterhaas.net/index.html

I have the NISMO headers that are about to be installed and I ordered the Crawford plenum yesterday, so that should be here in a few weeks.

All I have is Unorthadox crank pulley, Ingen CAI intake, and a grounding kit. I am thinking about getting Magnaflow exhaust. I hear it sounds pretty good and smooth. And I am waiting on the new Rogue engineering short throw shifter to finish production and be released. And of course, like we are already talking about, I have a set of Volk Rays GT-7 at my house waiting for tires.

the wheels look great! goona be really nice on the car

MaximumPwr Sep 19, 2003 06:39 AM

I got them in Mercury Silver. But after seeing that new Silverstone Roadster on this forum with 19" GT-7's in Gunmetal and polished lip, I kind of wish I would of gotten gunmetal myself for my silverstone. It really looks good. Anyways, it took over 3 months to get here. And then wouldn't you know it, Mackin forgot to include the center caps, or so they say. I have seen many pictures on this forum and another forum with GT-7's on a 350z and no caps with comments in the thread such as, "hey buddy nice rims, but where are the caps". I am starting to think Mackin ships them without the caps on purpose for whatever reasons they have. But they are supposed to be on the way now. The rim specs are as follows:

Front: 18" x 8", 29 mm offset, 2" lip
Rear: 18" x 9", 29mm offset, 2.5" lip

I know, I should of gotten them in 19" with a 4" rear lip and 3" front lip. I wish I had, but I think it will look fine. Also there are not that many tire choices in 19" and what is out there are outrages in price. And I don't plan on lower the car. I hear if you get 19" rims it sometimes looks odd until you lower it.

Audito350Z Sep 19, 2003 06:59 AM

will the OEM Nissan center cap fit in that opening?

Another option would be to have a machine shop make some aluminum caps to pop in the opening, maybe have the Z logo engraved onto the cap???

Todd@ProDyno Sep 19, 2003 07:27 AM

ditto ditto 245-40-18 & 275-40-18 all day

MaximumPwr Sep 19, 2003 07:32 AM

Not sure about the stock Nissan cap. I will try it when I get home. I would rather use the Volk cap since I did pay $120 for 4, which by itselfs is a rip off for 4 plastic caps

MaximumPwr and Audito350z,

Have you guys met up on Saturday nights on Westheimer and Post Oak with any Z owners yet?

the stock caps will not fit the GT-7's, i tried, sry
for the rims, i thought they were 8.5 in front 9.5 rear
that is what mine are. i have S03's 245/35/19 front 275/35/19 rear. looks awsome.

MaximumPwr Sep 22, 2003 05:15 AM

Nah, I have not met up with any 350z owners in Houston yet. I don't really cruise Westheimer or anywhere else. I don't really race. I would not mind meeting up with some though to look at what they have done to there cars and get ideas for my own. I am still researching exhaust. I am not sure what I want. I was going to order Nismo exhaust but I don't see myself paying over $1000 for a couple more pony's. I am thinking about just going ahead and getting Magnoflow. It is cheaper and I hear it sounds really good and smooth.
