Tire's making weird noise
So I've searched all over to find out what this is. I even did a few experiments to figure out what it was, and asked a few people too but I cant seem to figure out what is causing the noise
I know it's nothing with the engine because it makes noise even if the car is rolling when it is off. The noise is coming from the 2 rear tires most likely. The faster I go the louder and faster the noise gets. The noise occurs when the tires are rotating, and it sounds like something is rotating with it. I heard it happens to the Zs aggressive tires when the tread starts to wear out. But I just got serviced and I'm at 2/3's tread. Any ideas? |
You give us little information to work with:
Type of tires? Miles on tires? Photos of tires? Wheels size? Tire size? |
My bad, I thought you'd assume it was all stock;
Type of tires : Bridgestone potenzas Miles on tires : almost 10k Photos of tires : they look normal Wheels size : 18 inches Tire size : 225 and 245 |

Can you try to explain what it sounds like? You included info on everything other than the sound itself.
If it's a low-pitched rumbling noise, it's your tired just being loud. The stock Bridgestones are notoriously loud tires. |
it sounds like a flapping noise. it just started around 8000 miles the day before i took it to service on may 1st.
its like when duck tape gets stuck to your tire and it rotates around and makes it sound like you have a flat tire. but just a little quieter. |
^^ What you are experienceing may be normal. Summer performance tires are very hard, and thus very loud. I've run studless snow tires, all-season tires, and various summer performance tires. Summer performance tires are very loud when comparing to snow tires and all-season tires.

Are we totally ruling out wheel bearing...even though the car has such few miles? You might want to roll the tire over little by little inspecting the tread as you go. To totally rule the tire out. Is it both sides or just one. Find a place where you can drive next to a wall. (i.e. the side of a building or something) The reverberating sound will help you better here that faint sound so that you might be able to tell what it is. Also, doing so may help decide which side it is thats making the noise if not both sides. Good luck!
Not thread jacking...but I have a "sound" coming from my drivers side rear wheel. Only when I run over a big bump do I hear *clink* metal-like sound. Anybody have any ideas? |
'08 Rear tire noise (sounds like a flat but very faint)
Hey, did you ever figure out the problem? I think I have the same thing; '08 just under 10,000 miles, rear rotating noise, sounds like they are possibly worn uneaven and make a sound like a flat tire but very faint. Tread looks ok, but I will need to inspect it further, although I'm not sure what to look for. The noise has been getting louder and louder and I only started noticing it a month ago.
Anyone have any ideas? |
Check your toe go get it aligned....
