My Lug Nuts Keep Backing Off What Could Be The Cause Of This? Just Replaced The Studs And Seated Them So Don't Know Why They Would Back Off? If You Can Give Me Some Advice Please Let Me Knoe What You Think.

Not tightened with torque wrench to proper spec?
Wheels not seated on hub properly before tightening nuts?
Wrong size hub rings?

Inside of lug nut bottoms out on top of stud. In other words you are tightening the nut to stud but not the wheel. I think I said that right.

Do you have a wheel spacer on? When the car is jacked up, does the wheel wiggle when you push.pull it?

The Lugs Have Been Tightened To The Proper Specs Which is 80 Footpounds, More Explanition is that after i tighten the lug nuts down after driving for a while they start to back off the stud, coming unscrewed. the studs are brand new and they are seated properly with no give and no wobble. when i put the tire on there is no wiggle when i push or pull on the tire while jacked up. im not running any spacers on the car at this time. I even drove 10-15 miles then returned to make sure that the studs were seated i did this about 6-7 times after doing this the lugs didnt spin any more but were at 80ftpnds

You just replaced the studs , easy enough. Just keep checking torquing your lugs daily for a week. Studs stretch , may not be fully seated etc etc. I also torque mine to 100 for the first couple weeks till fully seated

Is this happening on just a few nuts or is it happening on all nut on all wheels?

Ok I will try the 100 for a while and this is happening to all the nuts concidering that my tire fell completely off going down the road yesterday, there was no indication that they were backing off either (NO NOISE, WOBBLE< NOTHING) the other thing is thjat none of the studs are bent nor stripped.

Have you tried cleaning the studs and lug nut threads to remove any grease or other coatings from them? After you do that, put some anti-seize on them.

Do you have OEM wheels? Are you using OEM lug nuts? If not, what are you using?

I assume you replaced the studs with longer ones, right? How much longer?


When tightening the lug nuts, do they become progressively tighter or to they stop turning suddenly?

no i have not cleaned the studs nor the lug nuts, i will do that later today, i do not have oem wheels nor lug nuts no one around here sells them i would have to order the lug nuts and i have (had) konig rims on it they are getting replaced with ruff racing rims, wehn i tighten the lug nuts the progressively get tighter they dont just stop, they did before and found out that the threads werent the right size and the studs were also stripped hence the reason for replacing all five studs, the way this happened is new to me and my father in-law who is a licensed mechanic

Wrong lug nuts? The cone is not properly seating against the wheel.

That's what I was thinking, they need to be 60º lug nuts to fit most of our wheels. If the cone angle of the lug nut doesn't match that of the wheel, then they don't have enough mating surface and will never hold tight enough.

Ok I check that but why would they all come off at the same time? If this isnt the problem what else would cause this to happen? I mean I found 3 of the 5 lug nuts within a 30 foot stretch of where the wheel fell off out of the 60-65 feet that i slid

This happened because the owner used the wrong lug nuts (wrong thread pitch, IIRC). He was able to tighten them to spec, but the load on the wheels from the direction changes pulled the nuts loose.

No I havent but the thing with that is the fact that the lugs i used to have on the car are still on 3 of my tires and have never had a problem, only reason that i changed these was due to the other ones being stripped, the old lus were starting to come loose as well but thats due to stripped I will replace the lugs with the proper size and thread pitch thank you
