305's

Just wondering if I can get some input here. I have been looking at tires for the last month or so, and decided to go with the RE-11's over the R888. The bad thing is that the RE-11's don't come in the size I would like (285/30/19 or 295/30/19)

My wheels in the rear:

19x10.5 +22. Car is lowered, fenders are rolled and camber is within OEM spec, and I would like to keep it that way.

Now, the RE-11's come in 305/30/19, and I know that they can be mounted on the 10.5" wheel.

The question is, will they rub?

This is the car now:

I am also considering the 285/35/19, RE-11's. They are a full inch taller though, so I may have to change the ride height...and that means alighnment again..

RonaldZ33 Mar 15, 2010 08:59 AM

You will rub and every time you get a tires get an alighnment better to be safe than sorry...

str8dum1 Mar 15, 2010 10:17 AM

+1 you will rub. I know the R888s need alot of camber to heat evenly. I'd check to about the RE-11s. doesnt make much sense to buy a race tire and not have it performing properly.

Boosted Performance Mar 15, 2010 10:21 AM

Thanks guys.

I guess I will have to go with the RE-11's in 285/35/19.

My wife's ZR has 19x10.5 +43s with a 305/30 tire.
-It does not rub at that offset
-It does not rub with a 15mm spacer, or a net 19x10.5 +28
-It does rub with a 20mm spacer, or a net 19x10.5 +23, the fenders are not rolled though. It's a PS2 which runs a little narrow compared to the 305 R888 monster that I've seen in an 18". If you really want the 305s, find any pair of 305s on your local CL and see how close you are. That is a common 911 size, so they're out there.

Those wheels look great!

Boosted Performance Mar 15, 2010 11:23 AM

So you are saying that with the RE-11's in a 305/30/19 configuration on a 19x10.5 +22 wheel, lowered car and stock camber in OEM spec, I should be ok?

im running 305/30/19 r888 on a 10.5" inch +22 wheel dropped about 1.5" inches. no rub with fenders rolled, -2 camber, gonna get it aligned to -1.5 and drop it another half inch. i'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks.

I would really like to keep the camber within OEM spec. Don't like the uneven tire ware, and I am looking for best traction.

Are you in much of a rush? It seems the R888s are out of stock everywhere, especially the 19s.

I know, it seems like everyone has to wait about 4-6 weeks on the R888's. I don't want them anyway, and plan on purchasing in the next week or so.

The RE-11's are on top of the list. Just need to know if the 305's will rub or not. If so, I will go with the 285/35's then.

TimeAttkZ Mar 15, 2010 05:24 PM

I have Volk TE-37 Time Attacks (10.5 +22)with 305/30/19 PS2's and it does not rub. Im dropped on stance coilovers and Im pretty dang low. My Z also has been corner balanced and with rolled fenders btw.

Now, R888 run wider then most 305's so I would be cautious.

Here is my 305's...

Where are you guys finding 305-30-19 RE11s? I'd like to run those tires again but can't find that size on my new wheels.

(I admittedly I haven't searched too hard, but I checked Tire Rack-- warehouse in town, so it's the first place I visit-- & Discount Tire Direct.)

No offense, but that to me does not look good at all. The wheels look out of place. I know many set it up that way, but it's just not my thing.

How does it look out of place might I ask:dunno: The 305's look perfect on my 10.5 rear wheels, not to mention fill out the rear fenders of the Z's wide ass stance perfectly. Looks are subjective and your def entitled to your opinion but I think its hilarious how the cool scene is to throw some rubber band tires on wheel makes like Volk, WedsSports etc These wheels are meant for spirited driving, motorsports etc. This whole infatuation with stretching tires belongs in the VIP scene on cars like Lexus GS300 etc.

Now I could be totally off base here and maybe your not a stretched tire advocate, but Im ranting in frustration. This forum is now dedicated to 350z's that are too focused on "the stance" then actually dialing in a proper stance worthy of spirited driving. Dumping money into the Z so that you have to drive it slow and cautiously just doesnt seem like money well spent to me. Maybe more and more 350z owners are not buying these cars for the performance capabilities/potential but rather to acheive the hella-flush look :dunno:

I recommend everyone to lurk on forums like 6speedonline and maybe they'll learn something. Maybe members like Nexx, bumpinjeep etc want to chime in ?

Here is a side profile shot... maybe the rear shots just look mis-proportioned due to bad photography?

Well then here are a few more pics of 305s on each of our Zs:

My wife's z that I autox'd a few times while I was in transition:
275/30/19 front on a 19x9 +31
305/30/19 rear on a 19x10.5 +28
Never any rubbing, even under full compression, and no fenders rolled

My Z with 19x10.5 +18 and 305/30/19s rubbed hard on my lowered set-up. Fenders were not rolled, but I don't think it would have helped. The wheel had to be in quite a bit more, but the 25mm spacers were all I had at the time, and I wanted to shoot these pictures.

When I said out of place, I mean massive negative camber. The recomended tire for my wheels is 285/30/19, so with mee looking at 305's I think one can conclude that I am not looking at "stretched tires" or "rubber bands". You didn't read the entire thread before posting, and drew conclusions.

I am here for traction, and not looks. That is why I don't want massive negative camber, and IMO it doesn't look good. What is the point of going with a 305 tire when only 80% of the tread is used?

My toe is perfect and no crazy negative camber is being used to run these 305's. I just got the Z corner balanced so ride height and suspension specs are all dialed in with me in the drivers seat. Ill look for the actual camber numbers. The contact patch is significantly bigger with the 305's.

Anyways, I see that your not considering stretched tires so Im sure whatever set-up you decide on will be just fine. In the end, Ive had 275's, 285's and 305's in the rear and I have to say the best set-up for me has been the 305's.

Bumpinjeep Mar 16, 2010 12:49 PM

My car is fairly low, ok its pretty damn low and i'm running 305x30x19s in the back, the camber is between -2 and -3. Tractionwise its great. I would recommend it. I suppose the looks are subjective but I think it looks more like a race car. I honestly dont see that much neg. camber on TimeAttkz's car anyway. Its important to choose the right wheel too. You dont want a heavy ass wheel with huge tires.
