S03's after 3600 miles
A personal experience to share.
I replaced my original tires at 18,500 miles with the S03 from Bridgestone. The front tires were noisy and the tread wasn't to the wear bars yet but the rear tires were almost slicks. Since we were headed out on a trip to AZ I replaced the set. I'm very happy with them. After 3600 miles of the worst that the interstate system can do, ( I hate I-40 in AR, the trucks are always passing one another at about .5 mph faster) they performed admirably. Smooth ride, less bouncing than before and they handled great on 89A in Arizona on the switchbacks. I could easily add 10 mph to the 10, 15 and 20 mph caution signs without my wife knowing I was. ;) Coming back through Texas in the rain there was no hint of hydroplaning at 70 mph in more than 1 inch of water. Some places on I-20 must have ruts a couple inches deep and they appear from nowhere without warning. Nissan must have gotten a great deal on the 04s but they should have delivered Zs with the S03 tires. Now I need to go back to get my car serviced again after all the mileage. |
I agree. Even though there is less contact patch than the RE040s, and the treadwear is harder (220 v. 140), once the S03s heat up, they're grippier. The S03s are a much more superior tire in construction and compound, and cost less too.

The RE040 is Bridgestone's tire model that is designed specifically for the 350. But I agree the S-03 should have been the OEM choice.

How so? It was the same crappy tire that S4 owners complained about. Not to mention all the other sorry souls that received it as OEM equipment (RX8s and I forgot who else)...
|
I remember STi have RE040 also

My experience with S0-3's has been the same as Drive's

I put 11000 miles on my S03s. These are great tires. I wouldn't put anything BUT S03s on the Z. Too bad i wont have it in 3 weeks.

What are you doing with your car?
|
Z8 has RE040 ;)

About halfway down the thread, there is a post from nsxtasy regarding a conversation he had w/ a Bridgestone engineer. Michael. |
Another vote for the S03's - they are great - - my RE040's (rear) wore out past the wear bars at 13,500 miles and I don't beat my Z - I'm glad to hear others have gone to the S03's - it's funny so many manufacurers are using RE040's, they must really get a break on the price to use them - lol

My .02 cents, look at Dunlop SP9000s.
