Muteki lug problem. I'm prolly just stupid
Hey guys, lemme preface this by saying I tried searching, but im kind of on a short time table, so if I missed it, I apologize in advance. Feel free to flame away, but at the end of your rant if you could leave an answer I would greatly appreciate it, and promise not to get all butthurt by the ensuing flamage.
Anyways, here's my problem. While back I got some new wheels with muteki lugs. When I was installing I noticed the lugs would turn only a few times, then they tightened up, and had significant resistance. I've had I'm a newb, and didn't think much of it, thinking it may just be how they fit, so I fought through it, torqued them down and never had a problem. THEN. Tonight I got a nail in my tire, so took the wheel off to take it to get plugged in the morning. I went to put the donut on, just for the car to sit on, and noticed that now my stock lugs are tightening up after just a few turns now too. Once they get tight, if I do a few turns with some force they get hot as hell Were the mutekis the wrong size? and have I really damaged the studs and will need to replace all 20 now? Thanks in advance, and again sorry if I missed it. |
Did you look at your studs after taking the wheels off? Sounds like you might have stripped a few of them.

I'm suprised you were able to keep twisting and then torque them without the studs twisting right off. edit: i meant 12X1.25 sorry for this misinfo |

prob.
the thread pitch 1.5 is more common for Japanese cars than the Nissan 1.25.. that sucks man. WHile yer at it, get some longer stiuds.. that way you can run a spacer or a nice big opene ended lug... longer studs and lugs have way more area to hold tight.. anyhoo.. sorry for yer loss. Shouldnt be THAT expensive to fix. Couple hundo. |
Thanks to everyone for your insight, I really appreciate it.
This is what happens when you live in an area where nobody really knows anything other than factory specs and you have to learn by trial and error. Thanks again. I noticed on Z1's site that most muteki and rays lugs are 12X1.25 I gather that there can't be a variance of the 1.25 vs. 1.5, but can the 12 vs. 10 differ? |
^sorry for the confusion of me posting 10X1.25, I meant 12X1.25 (I was thinking of the shift knob millimeter for some reason)
from the look of your studs it looks like the thread pitch of the lugnuts you have are probably 1.50 but yeah, It looks like you'll be replacing all your studs that were affected - |
