Should I go back to Hankook or go with Ohtsu?

I need to replace my four tires. What I have now is:

Hankook Ventus V12 evo
245/40-18 on the front
255/45-18 on the rear

I have been really happy with these tires. Have gotten about 5 years out of them and I liked how they performed. They are not really that expensive and did well in several tests.

I went to a new local shop today to get a service done and he quoted me on some Ohtsu tires. It was my first time with these guys and they are new, but seem to be really good and trustworthy. Told me upfront a few other things I needed, but I never felt pressured. Same sizes and specs, except the Ohtsu are not directional; the Hankooks are so I never rotated them.

I can get the Hankooks on tirerack for about $700, and he said he will basically charge me that same price because he will get them from there and he gets a discount. He is sourcing the Ohtsu's from a local tire dealer and those will be $500 for the 4.

Any opinions on what I should go with? I do not use this car for racing. It is strictly my daily driver. I live in Louisiana so I will not have to worry about snow.

Anyone have experience with Ohtsu? From the brief research I did, they are made my Falken.

They got General tires for $59 per tire.

i hated the v12s, i ditched them for the BFG sport comp 2 tires and love em

I had ohtsu on my daily for a little while before I sold it. I actually really liked them. They were grippy even when wet. Of course, these were 40 bucks a piece (15 inch wheels). Look into Nitto Nt555's. I have them on the z and LOVE them. So much grip (275 on the back, 255 fronts). I got my rears for 170 each at discount tire direct.

Maybe try the new Hankooks :dunno:. The v12 evo2. Apparently they are a significant improvement over the old version and they can be bought for around $900 for a set of 4.

since i got the sport comp 2 i wont go back to hankook, i told another member here about them and he loves them also, they are noticeably wider than the same size of the v12.

from discount tire direct they are just over $800

Travlee any idea how those compare to the Michelin pilot super sports? I need new tires once it's time to start driving the Z again and I've been deciding between the evo2 and michelin PSS. Those BFG tires seem to be better than the Hankooks for sure though.

pretty comparable except the 100+ price difference, the only diff is the treadwear ... pilot sport is 220 and come with mileage warranty, sport comp 2 are 340 treadwear. to me they are sticky, had them for just about 5k miles

Really good tires for everyday use. Furthermore, they are cheap enough. Try to read more reviews on ohtsu tires. But i think, you should buy Ohtsu.

I tracked the evo 2's last weekend, even though they are not the perfect setup for those use, it still held up pretty good. I feel like I could still squeeze out 2 more track days with them. I'll upgrade to street compound tires when my hankooks are done.
