245/45/17's in the rear upsetting TCS?
 

I'm running stock size in the front, 225/50/17's and 245/45/17's in the rear on stock 17 wheels and it seems like it is screwing with my TCS. This was the Plus Zero size that discount tire suggested. This usually happens when I'm taking curves. Speed or how sharp the curve is doesn't seem to matter, TCS will kick on and do its thing. Anyone else have this problem? I know Nissan specs are .5 - .75" stagger, but like I said, this is what Disc. Tire has as the Plus Zero. Any suggestions?

According to the tire size calculator at:

The stock tire sizes are:

225/50-17 25.9in diameter
235/50-17 26.3in

245/45-17 25.7in is the size of your new rears.

I can see where this would mess up your TCS. I would think Discount Tire should give you a refund or different set of tires. They should not have suggested this combo.

yeah i'm going to talk to them tomorrow. i went to that tire calc link (same one you posted) before I bought the tires and saw that it looked like 255/45/17s were the closest match to the stock rear size in overall diameter. i email disc. tire and they told me it wouldn't work because it would be out of the "stagger" range. but that size may not fit on the stock wheel either...too wide. time to make a trip to discount tire then.

255/45/17s would indeed fit your stock 8" wide rear wheel. They are 26.0" in outer diameter, and are on the hairy edge of maintaining the stagger, but probably would work OK.

Why isn't the TCS programmable? I want to run the same tires all around, but because of your experience I'm reconsidering this.

There is more than the TCS involved here. Your car was designed for a perticular diameter tire in the front and rear. When you change this it not only messes with the TCS but also your gear ratio and speedometer are setup for a perticular diameter. Comapnies aren't going to take the time and money to make you able to reprogram the ECU and TCS because you wanted wider tires in the back. That is what the aftermarket is for. I know on most V8 platforms they have devices specifically designed to account for changes in rear tire size, we just need a company to come out with it for the 350Z.

I'm running 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear, It runs excellent! I had the stocky in the front for a little while, and it was affecting the TCS as well. So I decided to just change to 45 series all the way around. I have the Toyo Proxes 4, and they stick like glue. :D

I run 245/45R17s all the way around on my car with no problems. So far in 5,000 miles the TCS has turned on onceunexpectedly around a long freeway corner, but that's it. If you want equal or different sized tires for increase performance, either turn the tcs off or deal with it. It's not a problem IMO, as like I said it has only turned on once randomly since June 1st. Don't let paranoia of a constantly flashing TCS like deter you from buying good tires, it's not an issue.

yeah i might try the 255/45's and see what happens or run something else on the front. It's not so much that i am paranoid about the light coming on but when the system cuts on and "slows" my car down when I'm trying to get on an on ramp and those behind me just about rear end me 'cause they are accelerating thinking I should be too. hate to get hit on the on ramp! Doesn't this somehow affect the ABS system too tho?

Just turn off the TCS.:p
