Sqeeking AP's
1 Attachment(s)
Had the 13'' AP Racing brake kit installed a few weeks back and haven't had a day go by without them sqeeking. I love the way the kit looks and performs but the sqeeking is annoying. Do all brake upgrades do that?

whats proper bedding

Usually you run the car up to 45mph or so then do 8-10 slow stops, then 3-4 hard stops. After that you let the brakes cool for 30 min - 24 hrs.

Ive had the brakes on for about 6 weeks or so. Whats the next step?

Stoptech recommends a different procedure to bed the brakes then, for example, what is says on the box of hps brake pads. With street performance pads, which most of us have, they say to do series of 10 decelerations from 60mph to 5-10mph using 80 to 90% braking force, assuming 100% would be engaging the abs. So thats pretty hard braking.
So basically you'd accelerate to 60mph, brake hard down to 5 to 10mph, then accelerate back up to 60, brake again and do it 10 times. Then drive around, trying to stay off the brakes, allowing them to cool and then repeat the whole procedure for another series of 10 decelerations. You can find all of this and more detail on it on stoptechs website. If your brakes are 6 weeks old you can try cleaning the rotors with some soap and water and brake cleaner first, shave the pads down slightly and then try the bedding procedure again. I believe somebody else on this board tried that. Not sure how it worked for him. |
APs are notorious for squeeking.

Re: Sqeeking AP's
If the pads are quieter when they are warmed up then it sounds like its just the pads that are the cause of the noise not your big brake kit. If you get pads with a lower metal compound then they shouldnt squeek as much. This is why stock pads dont squeek but you can get good performance pads that are alot better than stock that dont squeek.
