Help my 60'
Hey guys i've been out at the local strip about 5-6 times now w/ about 20 or so runs in and i just recently started to get consistent (last three runs were within .08 of each other 14.7xx-14.8xx) here in boise d.a.'s are usually 3k or up.
what i was wondering was how to get my 60' foot time down. my pb is a 2.217 which i've gotten close to a couple of times but most of the time it's about 2.3-2.4 and sometimes 2.5. i've seen some guys saying they've got 1.9 and 2.0's on stock tires, how? i'll usually do a quick spin of the tires to clean them off, and try to launch at about 3k or so while being easy on the clutch.
recent time slips:
60' 2.403 2.327 2.365
330' 6.457 6.376 6.414
1/8 9.710 9.628 9.686
mph 76.10 75.83 75.74
1000 12.472 12.394 12.463
1/4 14.805 14.729 14.795
mph 96.74 96.25 96.59
pb e.t. run (stock except wheels and tires)
60' 2.217
330' 6.270
1/8 9.545
mph 75.18
1000' 12.341
1/4 14.705
mph 94.67
I have and 06 touring 6mt w/ plenum spacer, modified lower collector, k&n drop-in, bfg kdw2's 255/35/19 285/35/19 at about 28 psi on volk gts'
any help would be greatly appreciated

As you mentioned, density altitude will adversely effect ET and trap speed. It should have minimal effect on 60 foot time. I am surprised that with 5 racing days, you have not stumbled on a better method. Once the tires “bite,” you have got to hit the gas hard. Hard means put the peddle to the floor.
So if we get 60 foot time to 2.0 seconds, that gives us a 9.3 second 1/8 mile ET. That’s unacceptable. I have no idea what you are doing with the first to second gear shift, but there is room for improvement.

The technique for launching is letting the clutch out as fast as the track will hold without spinning the tires (if you feel spin its too much).
Higher RPM will make a better launch (but be warned its also hard on the clutch system).
If you are spinning currently then try letting the clutch out slower. If you aren't try letting it out faster, and you want to get to full throttle as quickly as possible. Fast shifts are key as well.
I usually run in 1000 ft + DA because of temps, my best run was in 800 +, so I KNOW that good times are possible even given bad DA's.
I would say your 19's probably have something to do with it as well. But there is always room for improvement. I can't wait to go this week and find out where I'm at with my 19's even though i'm prepared to be disappointed.
First thing I would do is find out what other drivers are getting at the track you race. Although always room for personal improvement, due to track prep, etc., there will be a limit on what you achieve where you are at.

LOL I'll make excuses after my first run with them, thanks. but as i understand, it can affect his times when comparing to stock tires like he was. Especially with those GTS's that would have to be heavier than stock.

The thing is, on street tires, 18" or 19" wheels are gonna suck either way, but its not shock that limits your grip, its just the sheer hardness of the compound and its inability to take heat like VHT loves.
thanks guys i'll try to slip the clutch a bit more while reving a little higher
does a two step work very well on street tires?
i know my shifting needs work too but i figured i'd start at the beginning first. should i not lift when shifting? usually i will just let off slightly.

There are days when staging pad conditions are right, and traction is good. There are other days when I cannot run 2.1 seconds to save my soul.
If you are racing every weekend, odds are the you are going to hit a great day sometime. If you are racing a couple of times each season then you are less apt to be at the right place at the right time.
Regular racers can tell if the car is “hooking up,” and adjust their technique accordingly.

19's r goin go effect it a little...more rotating mass but not enough to affect that type of times....lower your tire pressure a bit...like 20psi...if its worse...maybe up it to around 35psi....drag radials would be a easy fix..but with your kdw's i would try a lower launch rpm....
Im a bone stock 06 base and my best time is 13.8. My 60' are consistant 1.9-2.0
I launch right at 2000 rpms, slip the clutch for a second then completely release it while going full throttle.
Idealy I would like to launch at 2500-3000 but the factory clutch sticks to the floor when I try it. I want to get consistant 1.8-1.9
