Welcome to then forum. Many buyers forget a simple concept; that is , make an offer.

Find the car you want.
Calculate the maximum that you are willing to pay.
Visit the dealer and make your best offer.

Use the Internet to find Dealer cost. Call 3-4 dealers and tell them you want to buy a Z at invoice and note responses. I also trolled 3 different dealer's lots. Remember that if you plan on adding any Nismo aftermarket later...you should do it now to get it warrantied. Their fine print says "at the time of purchase". ie: Nismo cat-back exhaust, or aero packages. Good luck.

Remember...Invoice is not dealer cost. There is holdback and dealer cash behind invoice. It's possible to get a car below invoice without even using any manufactures rebates, and they will still profit a few hundred bucks. Good luck.

If you don't have very much experience, use the inet to your advantage.

Go to edmunds and find the invoice for the Z. They will have an option there to submit an offer/bid to various inet sales managers for local Nissan dealers.

This is a very easy/convienent way of shopping. Use it, it wasn't available, before the net!!

It works great. Submit the invoice offer (or try for lower) and they will respond via email. Work out the details, go and drive the car. Take the best offer.

You should be able to do all the legwork over the internet, and by the time you arrive at the dealer everything should be taken care of.

If you want to just go down there and haggle have it. I know my local nissan dealer didn't mind printing out invoce and offering it to me.

For every person who demands invoice I'm sure there are 2-3 that will pay MSRP

Kaya, note good advice via Z MANIA and davidv. After your research, go to the dealer knowing max you are prepared to purchase the car for. Do not waiver, and be sure to inspect the final contract very carefully.
Final step, is have a blast in your new ride!

Go to KBB and print invoices and MSRP then take it to the dealer to compare. Normally all cars have different invoices because of the added options. I got my car 200 dollars over invoice and I'm happy with the purchase. I got the color and options I wanted. I had to drive an hour to get the car though but it was all worth it.

When I bought my Z I was looking for a needle in a haystack

Called 10 dealershipps and told them I was paying 500 over invoice (very generous offer I know) and that I was buying TODAY

One dealership actually had the one (Black track package) of THREE in my entire local area and had the car washed by the time I arrived --- I paid a little more to buy my rate down (divorce) and my payments were more than reasonable for the amount financed

I overpayed for GAP INS (400) but as a sales guy I didnt mind it too much --- they were honest and upfront and agreed over the phone --- in and out in about an hour

I would buy from them again

Buena Park Nissan was worth the money to me

Use the internet. Do not walk on the showroom floor until you have an offer you like. Start with the Nissan site...asking for quotes. Be prepared to drive a bit of distance. Be patient. Be flexible on some things like color (if you can), and options - it will increase the inventory from which you can choose.

If the dealer has a website, check out their inventory and use this knowledge to your advantage. For example, let's say Dealer X has 3 blue Z's. You like blue or at least don't dislike it. Dealer X likes to have a variety and wants to get rid of the blue. So, during your initial email contacts let him know your color preferences. List the blue as your third option. Let him know you don't dislike it, but it isn't your favorite. You really want....Black(be prepared to accept black too). This can be done with the different models, options, etc. Don't say you "Hate" something unless you really do.

FYI - I got mine for $1300 under invoice. I worked the dealer for 3 months off and on. I didn't have an immediate need so I had the ability to wait.I am sure they still made money.

OH...and remember...the only word to say to the offers (lojack, paint protection, extended warranties....) given to you by the Finance Manager is "No."

Good luck,
Marc

I bought it from performance nissan. I actually went onto to a website at first www.invoicepricing.com, i'm not sure if it still exists. Basically, the dealers fight for your business and give you the best price.

You can hassle and haggle again once you get there, so after 7 hours of hassling, I got 900 under.

WOW $1300 under invoice!? Do you think I'd be able to do that with a 2006 base 350z? I'm in the market now, and the invoice on a base is $25,800. I would be so happy to get it down $1300 under invoice, but not sure how to negociate. I'm not in a hurry to buy. So should I just go to all the dealers in my area and offer a price slightly under invoice and see who can get the lowest?
