Default 06-08 Gloss Black Painted Headlight Blistering Problem!

Im sure im not the only one with this problem...I got a pair of 06-08 modified headlights with paint bubbling/blister problems right below the projector lens. According to some threads this may be because of the ballasts getting too hot however it's just an assumption and not a fact. The ballasts sits about 1 inch below this piece of plastic/bezel, i dont think it the ballast can cause that. Could it be the type of paint or maybe the surface wasn't prep enough? Here is a pic

Any suggestions ?

i talked w casear about this on mine, we left them painted silver like the proj housing as it seems to only happen to dark colored paint, but its simply heat from the magnified headlight beam coming off that lens.. hes had the same issues, unless you use engine super high temp paint on that, youll end up warrantying normal autobody paint like that often..

its not from underneath, its the same idea as frying an ant man. maybe they make a high temp clear? not sure...

Yeah, I actually thought about that.. Maybe the car was parked in a certain angle with direct sun exposure and the magnified heat burned right through. I took the headlight apart already, the plastic underneath is completely cooked and deformed .

Another theory could be a combination of the HID and STI Clear Lens.. I imagine the light is more intense than the stock ripple lens.

It cant be the color because I got another white headlight with the same problem.

yep happens when you use that new sti-r lens. Leaving that one single area chrome helps.

are you going to do anything about it? Or are you just asking how that happened? Its from the heat

I actually wanna figure out how we can avoid this..but im afraid there's nothing we can do about this.

I soda blasted most of the black paint and used grey putty to fill the small holes left behind..

repainted the pieces using matte black paint.
