Rain is forecasted for tomorrow?

It's looking good at the moment as today's forecast (at 10:30am) is:

"Fine. A mainly sunny day with light wind and afternoon seabreezes."

Though, there are "few showers" forecasted for tomorrow.

LOL. That wasn't anything. i only got 14.411 and you got 18.685 is because you put on the Reverse Gear instead of Drive hahahahah

But anyway it was a Great Fun Night and it's a Pity LemanZ totally Forgot the Drag was tonight. But Maybe next time
Would love to see the Auto 350Z with Hi-tech exhaust kill us

but anyway. So far there is only 4X 350Z and the Best time was Lionking = ~13.800" and my best only 14.334 second

But overall Lionking is the Fastest on Drag DavidM is second (~14.100)and I'm Third. ZZZ-35 is the last (~14.400).

But anyway next trip would love to see more 350Z on the Driver Training day

Would want to see a Revenge of the Manual 350Z killing the Auto 350Z after all the Manual was Killed by an Auto on the Drag race

Yaeh, it was fun .... it was good to be there with the NDSOC as you could run from the 'other' side probably 2x as much as anyone else. Also we had 4 350Z there all up ... pretty cool.

It was good to actually see what the difference to the run the launch makes. You can drive as well as you can imagine, but an ordinary launch can easily drop you 1/2sec. You get a bad launch and you drop even more. Also it was interesting to see a fast car being beaten over 400m by a slow(er) car just by the slow car having 1/2sec better reaction time. That is so hard to make up over 400m. Once I lined up a car that was running about 1.2sec slower 400m times than me. Though, that car beat me on reaction time by 1sec and it took me most of the 400m run to chase him down and pass him ... I crossed the line measly 0.3sec ahead. Just goes to show you that at the lights, and to 100kph(or less), you can be beaten by a Barina no matter what car you drive .... and that is pressuming that you have it floored and are shifting as quick as possible.

Anyway, to the times. I had 7 runs, with the last being my best and this is how my runs went:
- run #1 = 14.288 @ 159.5kph (60' = 2.336)
- run #2 = 14.266 @ 159.1kph (60' = 2.279)
- run #3 = 14.105 @ 159.6kph (60' = 2.226)
- run #4 = 14.224 @ 159.1kph (60' = 2.263)
- run #5 = 14.253 @ 159.5kph (60' = 2.291)
- run #6 = 14.161 @ 160.4kph (60' = 2.325)
- run #7 = 14.071 @ 160.3kph (60' = 2.222)

So one thing that I am is very consistant ... cosistant trap-speeds, consistent times, and consistan reaction times. I almost got into 13s, but it did not happen. The launch is by far the hardest part and that is really all that created the variation between my times (IMHO). A good 60' time is 2sec flat .... some people say that they car get sub 2sec with a RWD car. 4WDs (like WRX) cut 1.8sec 60' times, and can get 1.7sec. From what I gather, every 10th that you shave of the 60' time translates to two 10th at the end of the 400m (or something like that). So if I could do that then I could possibly run times as low as 13.6s. Still, I could not figure out how to improve on my 2.2sec 60' time. I tried launches with lots of revs, little revs and almost anything in between ... my last run was launched from around 3000rpm and then I modulated the throttle unitill the tyres stopped spinning (which was at around 30kph). I even did a burn-out for most of the runs, but I don't think it was good enough as I was not seeing much difference in times. I'm thinking that maybe if one could (somehow) move the car off line a little bit and then dump the clutch it might make for a better launch ... but I'm just speculating.

Oh, and 2sec flat is definately possible for the 350Z as Lionking was doing it on regular basis with his auto 350Z. He car tell you about his times, but let's just say that he is the 1/4mile champ ;-) Now we just need to figure out how to emolate an 'auto launch'.

ps.
Does anyone know how they work out the 'trap speed' at the end of 400m? I am guessing that it is not actually the speed at the end of 400m, but the 'average' speed over some distance (ending with 400m mark). What distance though, I would not have a clue. What got me thinking is that I had a friend there with an auto XR6 (not Turbo) and he run the best time of 15.340 @ 146.7kph (60' = 2.357). He was running very consistantly all day, trapping around 146kph for all the runs, while the mags publish a trap-speed of around 150kph for that car while running a slower 400m time (ie. 15.5sec). I know that magazines publish the trap-speed exactly at the end of the 400m as the timing device that they knows the exact speed (and distance) at anypoint in time. At the 400m strip the trap-speed for the XR6 was about 5kph lower.

Btw David. Looks like lot's of people on the Forum in USA. Recommend you to Ride the Clutch instead of Dropping it and try between 1500 rpm - 3000 rpm and Ride the clutch. Not dropping it. I think we all Manual has been Dropiing the Clutch instead of Riding it.

The American reckons we can get 60' in 2 sec flat by riding the Clutch because you'll get a lot less wheels spinning.

Why don't you check out on the Drag Section. There is a lot of tips on how to Launch the 350Z manual properly with Street tires. I just read them too.

Cheers

Before we started ZZZ-350 told me that an auto was a girls car. I don't know what would be worse ... drivin one ... or gettin beat by one???!!! Had fun ZZZ - lookin forward to gettin on a proper circuit track with you guys. Have to say the BOY's blue cars were 2 of the nicest lookin' cars out there. That blue with the body kits and wheels looks friggin' awesome!!! But ... from the stats in so far.... silver might just be the fastest colour...

Had a blast on the night. 4 350's there and a lot of other z's. Even the granpappy 240 was there with his GTR motor. What a little beast.

Took a few runs to sort out how things work. There wasn't much instruction - just a lot of guys wavin their arms. One guy waved his arm and you pull forward. Another guy waved his arm and you stopped. Then he waved his fingers and you did a burn-out after that there was some pretty lights and then it was all throttle.

I was getting some awesome launches. Out of 9 or 10 runs - did so many I lost track - and a couple of slips, 60-70% were near perfect launches. The auto was making this very easy compared to the manual guys. They were struggling to get traction. I just powered up with the brakes on and dumped the brake on the yellow. The traction on the start was just right for my car. I did have a few bad launches though. I broke traction badly on my last run and I could feel the frustration with the car just sittin there spinnin.
My first fast run (13.914) was in fully auto. I knew I could get a few more revs out of the car in manual and managed another 10th. Might be able to squeeze another 10th or so but I think thats about the limit of the car in stock form. I think there is another slip that I didn't see that might be in the 13's but probably no faster than these.

four fastest runs:

R/T 60' MPH ET

.695 2.095 100.77 13.816
.729 2.120 101.74 13.850
.806 2.114 101.83 13.867
.620 2.059 98.95 13.914 (in fully auto)

Just for the record. Yes - I did an 18 second run. Yes it WAS because the car was in reverse when the lights changed- THEN nearly blew my poor wittle girly motor by slammin the shifter into neutral at 7000 rpm's with my foot pushing the accelerator throught the floorboard (I put the car in drive instead of manual when I changed out of reverse). Ok, I admit it was a dillweed move and YPWPAT smoked my A$$. He wasn't scared at all.

Go YPWPAT ..Go YPWPAT ..Go YPWPAT ..

DavidM - good to see you got another 10th in that last run. Not much more to shave off for a 13sec run!!!

Congratulations guys on what sounds like a fun night at the drags.

LK - well done on pulling the fastest 1/4 of all 4 Z's on the night. Just goes to show that auto 350Z are not slow. Do you have any mods on your car and can you write up on some of your runs, ie launch technique, gear shifting points 60' times, trap speed etc, especially runs where you took on other Z's.

David - your times are very consistent. There was not even a "bad" run in that lot which is very impressive. It's frustrating not to crack into the 13's though (my best was 14.070s).
WRT launching, I did what all you guys did and that was drop the clutch between 2200-2500 rpm. However, I only ever spun on the line for a few tenths of a sec and then the tyres would grip and go. I never really spun away from the line though. Also I have never tried to launch at the track by riding the clutch, as I am too sympathetic for the clutch, but I believe that this technique would lead to faster 60' and 1/4 mile times.
I always thought that the dragway recorded a terminal speed as you crossed the 400m line, but not sure????

Have posted the best times above.

No mods. Just a boring touring 5AT girls car.

I was tryin to hold the gears to 7000. These were my fastest runs. It's quite tricky on the auto though because if you nip the limiter the car will "hang" there for a second or two before shifting. So the excercise is to get as close as possible without hitting it. My slower runs were when I hit the limiter. If you run strait auto the car will shift about 6500 into 2nd and maybe a bit earlier into 3rd and 4th. When runnin manual I could hold the gears a bit longer and JUST get to the finsh line in 3rd.

I ran ZZZ and Ypwpat a couple of times. Because of the better launch I was ahead a length or 2 from the start but I don't think there was much in it after that.

Not sure exactly but it is around 2,200 - 2,500 I think. The technique that worked most of the time was full brakes and about 1/2 throttle - wait for yellow then release brake and go full throttle.

Wow stock 350Z auto with 2.5 - 3 car lengths over the next best modded 350Z is very impressive.
