Default Sometimes things don't go as planned

I was planning on becoming a new Z owner either Monday or Tuesday of this week, now it looks like things aren't working out quite the way I hoped. I ordered a 05' DB Enth 6-speed with trunk/floor mats and kick plates on November 19th for $27,000 from Royal Nissan in Baton Rouge. I had to sign an agreement that allowed him up to 10 weeks to get me a car and I cut him a check for $500.

Long story short, I got a call from the dealer early that the car should be in the US on January 1st since there was another car "in the pipeline" that was already promised to another dealer and could be negotiated to come to Royal. They said the car should be ready to go on January 3rd or 4th. I'm thinking great, new car soon, break out the champagne.

I called them yesterday to find out that the car is stuck in California because there apparently weren't any trunk mats to give me. That was the most retarded reason ever to not deliver a car, why not send the car anyway and have me pick up the mat later on.

Fast forward to today, the dealer says that I can't recieve my car for another 8-10 days because it is coming by rail to Baton Rouge...talk about suck. Why can't they just send it on a truck like everyone else?

Does any of this make sense? Should I press the dealer to offer some compensation on this deal? Should I consider a black or silver car since they could probably find one in the area?

Do not settle for another color dude! Wait the extra time to get the exact car you want. (I almost did the same thing and I am glad I waited)

Hey fellow BTR resident. I had my first run-in with Royal back in the early 80's with my first Z. When I was ready to order my new one, I went by there to see what they had. Got to talking to one of their salesmen and he quickly reminded me why I swore to never deal with them again. I eventually got mine from Leblanc.

While it never makes sense, what you're describing is probably correct. He's just trying to make a deal to find something that matches what you want. Apparently they're have problems making a trade for "yours". Unless you can find something elsewhere and threaten to walk, you probably won't get much "compensation" out of them. I guess it all depends on how bad you want it and if you willing to wait the extra 10 days. Have you used the Nissan.com website to design and locate a Z? There are a lot of dealers within 100 miles or so that just might have what you want.

My opinion is to hang tight for what you want, but keep pestering them....I can't believe a dealer would'nt want to make a sale, so they're probably not lying too bad.....(did I say that?)

If and when the car comes in, check it very carefully. Years ago, a Mazda dealer gave me a similar run around with a new RX7. As it turned out, someone crashed the car and it was in the body shop getting fixed. I didn't find out until AFTER taking delivery that the front, hood, driver door, roof was repainted, and some front suspension problems. By that time, money has already changed hand. I got stuck with a damaged car, and paid full price for it.

Hang tight man. I had to actually find my DB and force my dealer to go get for me from your great state. It was worth the effort, and I don't think I could have waited to order one or settled on another color.

Yeah definitely sit tight. 10 days is nothing if you are getting the car you want. It'll be a tough 10 days though! You'll be imagining all sorts of things happening to your Z while it's making its train-trek across the country. Kids keying it, rocks getting thrown at it......some homeless fella with diarrhea camping out in it while he hitches a ride to LA.

Am I helping? LOL I'm gonna take that as a "no."

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I'm really stuck on the blue so I've held off from visiting the dealer. I have continued to pester him the last few days. I can tell his sales manager isn't very happy when I call him and aggrivate him daily. I'll tenatively say that on Wednesday to Friday of this upcoming week I'll be piloting my Z. I'll have to take some photos of course to let you all see.

One other thing when you get it, take it and dyno it so you know what your baseline is.

Hadn't given it much thought prior to be honest. How much does a single pull on the dyno usually cost? Usually the only way I've seen it done is by purchasing a day of dyno time, and that is usually a negotiable dollar amount. Just curious to know up front what I would pay for something like that.

Don't settle until you get the exact Z you want. It's worth the wait in the end.

I am now livid with Royal Nissan. They have delayed my car until the 28th of January. 10 weeks of waiting from November when I ordered the car. That was supposedly the maximum wait that I could have for this car.

I pissed off my sales guy, his manager, and now I've recieved a call from the owner of Royal. Aparently me telling the manager that I thought he was not taking my sale seariously enough angered him. Honestly now, I've been promised 3 different dates for the car and none of them have come to pass.

I got irate with the manager because I told him that the contract I signed initally said a maximum of 10 weeks wait for the car they could keep my 500 deposit up until then. I told him after that, I wanted my money back if he couldn't make the car get here before then and I'd be walking to another dealer. He told me he would not give me my money back, I assured him that the document was done in good faith and that it showed due consideration on both parties and that he was contractually bound to the terms like them or not. He still persisted, I digressed.

The owner called me 10 minutes later and apologized and asked what could he do to make good on the deal. I said I just want my car, that's all. I already know that 27,000 for the car is a great deal and that they probably will not negotiate on the price anymore. He offered to possibly find another car in a different color with the same options. I told him I wasn't really sure if that is what I am interested in and that I would like at least a day to think things over. He offered to refund my money if I desired to walk...which I'm not even sure if that would be the best answer.

If I walk I probably will not get the same price that he offered anywhere else. If I stay and wait, I basically tell the guy that I'm fine with waiting and have to suck up the fact that interest rates may change between now and the end of January. (mind you Allen Greenspan has been increasing these lately)

What would you do if you were in my situation....I just feel like crap about the whole thing and feel like my options are streatched thin.

Man I see that DB Enthus 6 speeds are still just as hard to find as when I barely got mine. I was just as stuck and screwed as you. What I did though was I posted over in a dealer forum on another 350Z site that my dealer couldn't find one and luckily someone PMed me and told me where a DB Enthus 6 speed was located. I told the dealer GET ME THAT CAR NOW OR I WILL DRIVE OVER AND BUY IT FROM THEM. They traded for it and I had it in a couple days. Maybe someone on this board can find a DB Enthus 6 speed for you. I know if I see one I will let you know.

If you or anyone can get that information I think that I'd owe my soul to you. Well maybe not that far, but probably a case of beer at least.

Rats, the dealer mentioned that the config site is often incorrect and does not necesserily reflect his inventory. Which has proven true in the past for me. I"ve called a few dealers and the car was already gone. I think the config site is lagged by about a week of delay.

Two phone calls and 5 minutes of negotiation he quoted me 27,900 on the car. VERY VERY VERY tempting. Southwest tickets are 230 for me to get there....so I'm up to 28,100 + fuel....
