Video Games with the 350Z

Hey all, I just saw a few new images of the 350Z that are appearing in a new game coming out in a month or so. It's called Sega GT 2002 and it'll be out for the Xbox and PS2.

I know that the Concept Z was in Gran Turismo 3 for the PS2 and it was great, but it was the concept car, and as such it wasn't powered the same. I'm not saying Sega GT 2002 will be better than GT3 was. Heck no, GT3 is the god of driving games... but from what I have seen and read on the video game sites, Sega GT 2002 uses a totally different engine that the old ones and it's MUCH better. It is expected to give GT3 a run for the money as best all around game.

I know, we'll believe it when we see it. You can also play ALL other generations of the Z, as well as the Skyline GT-R and another huge amount of cars. You can fine tune and customize just like it GT3.

It looks like Sega looked at Gran Turismo and it's success and thought...we can do this. (and then copied them) (which is fine by me)

So anyway, here are the shots, remember, these are reproductions so they are grainy. the actual game shots will eb crisper and cleaner.

These shots are from the Xbox version of the game. (next three posts will have the shots)

Post some more

Wow Sega looks like they did a very good job. Can't wait till I get my hands on Sega GT 2002, but I know it nothing link the realism of GT3.

D C 05-06-2002 09:25 AM

Well, there's the answer to my question of if you had seen the screenshots for Sega GT 2002, Jay. There was a Sega GT for Dreamcast too, this isn't their first shot at a competitor for the GT series. Anything for XBOX has a huge advantage over GT3. Right now Sony can't compete with the capabilities and features of the XBOX at all.

the xbox has an unbelievably greater edge over the ps2, but seriously, those screenshots compared to the gt3 screenshots are absolute crap.

these are pictures from the gran turismo concept game. sifted through 218 screenshots for these. it has the exact same graphics as gt3 does. and personally, they look a whole lot better than the sega gt looks. what do you guys think?

and the fairladyz in all it's glory...

D C 05-06-2002 10:53 AM

Those are nice screenshots, but I still think that the XBOX will allow for much superior graphics and other features. It will rule if you can listen to custom soundtracks in Sega GT 2002.

knihc2008 05-06-2002 10:59 AM

i know the xbox will rule. but the thing is the people at segagt just don't seem as devoted as the people at gran turismo. compare the second screenshot of the sega gt screenshots with the last screenshot of the gran turismo ones, both similar head-on slight 3/4 views of the car, and the gran turismo version looks infinitely better. you can see the grille lines in the front air dam, the headlights are perfectly detailed, the scenery is beautiful, the edges aren't as jagged, you can read N-I-S-S-A-N in the nissan logo, the reflection is more realistic...

...all in all, gran turismo, while being played on an inferior gaming system, is the superior game.

knihc2008 05-06-2002 11:01 AM

and one more thing...

...the exterior rear view side mirrors of the z in sega gt are perfectly round, though they're supposed to be squared off and angled, like they are in the gran turismo version

that's detail, folks.

D C 05-06-2002 11:04 AM

Well, there's no arguing that the Gran Turismo series is dominant now and has been since #1 came out. It will be interesting to see what new driving games come out within the next few years.

dvlad 05-06-2002 06:11 PM

damn, now i gotta go out and by a console game system:p

After seeing those pic's, and hearing about how realistic the driving is in GT3 and possibly GT 2002. I can now practice driving the car before I go autocrossing.:D

perfectlyfrank 05-06-2002 06:36 PM

I've been trying to decide between the PS2 and XBOX for months. I guess I'm going to base my decision on which 350Z is better :)

D C 05-06-2002 07:31 PM

Both of you guys need a XBOX. You won't regret it.

BullishZ 05-06-2002 07:51 PM

Knihc...

Those pics look great!!!

Can you pick the 350Z in different colors?

D C 05-06-2002 08:17 PM

yeah, in all of the GT games so far, and in the first Sega GT, several different colors were available. I'm still laughing about the Ford Ka in GT2 available in cuirass metallic. Ok, maybe my mind is in the gutter, but it kind of sounds like queerass metallic when you sound it out.

knihc2008 05-06-2002 11:14 PM

i personally don't own gran turismo concept but actually i don't think you can change colors on the fairlady z because it's still considered a "concept car" (just like how nissan considered it a "concept car" at the tokyo auto show) in the game. and since concept cars come only in one color, you can't change the colors...kinda like the gtr concept also in the same game.

i've also seen pictures of a modded 350z in the game as well. those gran turismo people know their cars. they've made up body kits for both the 350z and gtr concept...and they look friggin awesome.

JmanZ 05-07-2002 01:28 AM

My mouth hung open for a solid ten seconds after seeing that modded GT-R.

SWEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeT!!!!!

Problem though.... is that all those shots of the Z on the PS 2, are from Gran Turismo CONCEPT TOKYO and it is NOT FOR SALE in North America. It isn't the full Gran Turismo game either, it's 20 new cars that were in the Tokyo auto show, and while it is GREAT, it's not the full game. You can't save them to your garage and then use them in the normal GT3 game (damn it).

Driving wise, I don't know that anyone will ever beat Gran Turismo, they are easily the kings of the hill... but you gotta know now that others have seen how popular the game is, others are going to try.

I mean seriously, all the Gran Turismo series is, is a company with great programmers using the Playstation and later the PS2 to it's full abilities. Right?

So what is stopping a company from doing the same thing with the Xbox? It's more powerful than the PS2 so *technically*, it is very possible. Will it happen? umm.... I hope so but I am not holding my breathe!

Sega Gt 2002 uses a complete different engine than all previous versions, and these shots that aren't that great are not final game shots, as I posted, they are pixely and they haven't been cleaned up yet. I doubt they'll be as tight as the Concept Tokyo but since I can't play Concept Tokyo... and don't read Japanese should I pay an ungodly sum of money to import it, oh wait... it wouldn't work in the North American PS2's unless you modded your PS2 to accept Japanese PS2 games....

ack.. I'll stick with my Xbox. :)

PS2 has better games right now, more games etc... but all systems suck in their first 6-12 months. Maybe not suck but they pick up speed around year two usually, JUST as the PS2 is doing right now.

I can't wait for it regardless... I'll post screen shots the day I get the game.

knihc2008 05-07-2002 02:12 AM

true gran turismo concept tokyo isn't available in america...yet. it'll be out during summer, they say, as well a new gran turismo concept geneva. and gran turismo 4 is coming out early next year. yee-hee!

wanchong 05-07-2002 02:20 AM

XBox

One thing about the Xbox you have to be careful about is the infamous BLUE SCREEN of DEATH. The Xbox is a PC and it is loaded with some kind of windows derative. So think about purchasing one that will crash eventually and more often!! :D

If you want an Xbox...might as well purchase a PC and get emulation software...if its not out there yet...it will be!

rouxeny 05-07-2002 02:56 AM

I dunno guys. I have an XBOX and basically, it's awesome. Halo by itself is almost worth the price of purchase. I agree that there aren't that many games out, but it's growing.

Anybody else notice that the XBOX 350Z has a short, fixed antennae on the left rear quarter panel?

I hope it's not the "real" production model....

But... those two Gran Turismo games are not compatible with the North American PS2 boxes. You'd have to buy the mod chip, get it installed and then they'd work.

As for GT4... not sure where you heard it was due out early next year but I hope you're right. I read an interview with the head of Sony's video game department and he said Gran Turismo 4 would launch with the Play Station 3 in mid to late 2003 in Japan, then it'd be released in North America in 2004. He wouldn't go into details about the PS3 but he said they had to advance their plans for release because of the success the Xbox was enjoying in Japan and Europe. They expected the Xbox to bomb.

(Gates could buy Sony without sweating, did this guy really think Gates would launch a video game machine and then have it fail? I hate Gates dearly, but bottom line... he's a geek and geek's don't like to finish last. Sony will NEVER touch the Xbox)

I expect the PS3 to be better than this version of the Xbox, but since the Xbox is upward expandable... I think the Xbox 2 or whatever they call it will kick but again. :) The machines keep getting better and better... one will always be better than the other for a short time, then they'll trade positions and do it all again.

Either way though, we're the winner!

Myself, if I was Gates... I'd buy the company that licenses the Gran Turismo series for Sony. :) Without the Gran Tursimo series.... ouch, Sony would not be where it now. I know MANY people (including myself) that bought the PS32 for the very game series.... if it was Xbox, good god... color me happy.

I can dream at least.

I have used my Xbox since day one when they came out... and not once has it even burped, let alone crash. My PS2 though, crashed often. The first batch of PS2's were plauged with problems, ask any dealer that sells them and they'll tell you of returns. Ask about the Xbox now... not one return because of mechanical error.

flawless

The Xbox is a better machine, there isn't one arguement any PS2 fan can use OTHER than the current game catalog. The games for the PS2 are fantastic. I wish i had those games... haha

S'okay though.... I'll take a faster machine with full online broadband play and smoother graphics anyday :)

You haven't lived until you've gone online with HALO and played against a ton of strangers. :)

RADZ 05-07-2002 04:08 AM

Sorry to say Jman

I know four people who got the xbox. All four have stopped using them. One, my cousing, actually sold it after having to send it back twice. I was very excited when it came out and was seriously going to get one, but after seeing all the problems people were having first hand, I think I will wait for the the XBOX2. I agree with you that Halo rocks.

m477 05-07-2002 06:45 AM

Is it just me, or do the PS2 pics look 1,000,000 times better than the Xbox pics?

Yeah, hardware blah blah blah.... it all about the GAMES people!

I was playing Halo at my buddy's house the other day and it friggen CRASHED on us! I **** you not! WTF, I've never had a game console actually freeze up before.... Screw that, I'm sticking with my PS2!

D C 05-07-2002 09:17 AM

I have had zero problems with my XBOX and I play it all the time. I'm sticking with opinion that the XBOX is infinately far superior to the PS2. The XBOX runs almost twice as many polygons per second as the PS2. I don't even think its fair to compare the two.
