350z Gas Mileage

Looking into buying a 350z and i was wondering how bad is the gas mileage. Does your car take alot of gas?

How often do you fill up gas and how much does it cost?

LIdrew 07-11-2005 09:51 AM

Gas mileage is no worse than any other 3.5 liter. If you take it easy and don't drive too spirited, you can get over 20 miles per gallon. I get 24 mpg hwy driving, however if you rev it out in around town driving you can get under 15 MPG. The cost depends on how hard you drive, how often you drive and where you live. Here in NY i'm paying about 2.60 a gallon for 93 octane which is the lowest any of us should be putting in. Takes me about $35 to fill it and lasts me a week, but I only drive 10k miles a year on the Z. It's great to have a cheap 4 cyl car as a beater. My corolla gets over 30 MPG. Just about any V6 SUV gets worse gas mileage so as far as that goes it's not that impractical.

Yup. Last week I made a ~100 mile trip and got around 31mpg cruising at 65mph.

I reset my MPG reader after the second time I filled up, I get 16.5mpg mixed driving. (Mostly city)

My Z gets around 20 mpg....my celica used to get 26mpg and even a trip to vegas back and forth in one tank...it's about the only think i miss about the 4 cyl.

Damn, bro. Are you still looking for a Z? Don't worry about gas mileage. If gas milage is a concern, you can get a Prius. I don't know how some of these people are getting 25+mpg because every car I have been in, if you check the mileage display on the guage, they all show roughly 16-18mpg.

Once i got 53mpg on MPG reader,
but I was rolling downhill in 6 gear.
:-)

Beat that Prius!

Well on the city i get 19-20mpg. on the highway if i drive a normal 65 i get 26-30.

If i drive around 75-80 it varys between 25-27.

Also ammount of up hill driveing and down hill driveing affect this.

gas mileage

I just completed a vacation trip over 3500 miles. The average for the whole trip was 26.2 mpg. The first leg of the trip was from Fort Worth to Dumas, Tx, I got 29.7, but that was staying within the speed limit of 70 mph. After I go to Colorado, I was going mostly 80 to 85 on the freeway until I got to the mountains going from Pueblo to Grand Junction. The mileage went down a little. When I got to Utah, the flow of traffic was going 90- 100 in the open spaces and the mileage went down again, still around 25 though. Like I said for the whole trip i averaged 26.2 and I think that is pretty decent for a car that performs as well a Z. BTW on my trip I went to Arches Nat'l Park and Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park then on to Las Vegas on the Los Angeles. The return trip I came back as straight as I could thru Phoenix and El Paso to Fort Worth. The Z is a dream of a road car and gas mileage should never enter into deciding to buy one.

Before all my N/A mods, I use to get 25.4 mpg but after all the mods were installed, I only get 21.6 now. That is driving from clear lake to the Galleria area in traffic time everyday. Like a few other people have said already, it really depends on how you drive. I only get on it when provoked, =) otherwise, I just cruise and enjoy my car.

Ya man im still looking for the right Z. I don't know if i will get a new one but hopefully a used one. I check ebay and Autotrader everyday so im still waiting on that perfect Z i want. This gives me more time to save up more for a downpayment as well.

I just purchased a 2005 Touring Z, and I am incredibly pleased with the mileage: 24.6 on the highway, about 17 or so in the city. This is such a pleasant change from my 1991 BMW 850i, which I loved, but which got about 16 mpg highway, and 7, yes 7, miles per gallon in the city!

I agree. I hate when people complain about the gas mileage of sports cars. Gas mileage should not be in your vocabulary when buying a sports car. I traded in my civic getting 40 mpg for my Z which is averaging about 21 mpg.

Too bad...that 850 is a great peice of car history. That was probably the last streetable V12 on earth. 7 mpg sounds like you needed a tune up that BMW would have charged thousands for. An aquaintance of mine has one with 40K original miles. He doesn't drive it any more but he can't sell it.

2muchZ4u 07-11-2005 12:19 PM

true.. if your buying a sports car mpg should never be your main concern, especially when you are getting ready to drop 20-40k on one. if you got money to buy one then you got money to put gas in it.

MyIS300 07-11-2005 12:20 PM

thats nothing.. i had an IS300 2002 and got under 21mpg highway.... 20-30 is awsome by my standards!!!

gdirty5 07-11-2005 12:42 PM

Yeah yall are right about not worrying about mpg. The problem is that GAS PRICES ARE GOING UP! Thats my main concern.

elms350Z 07-11-2005 12:46 PM

It's tough to say because the speedo fluctuates. I would reset the trip on your next fill and run it close to empty and do the math from there for a more accurate reading, just a suggestion. On a full tank my DTE reads about 360-370. But I got about 420 miles on a full tank which is about 21 mpg. I'm sure I had atleast another 20-30 more to go. BTW this was mostly Highway from San Diego to LA.
