So who's cloth seats are already worn?

I got a performance with 700 miles on it and the drivers side bolster is already wearing. Not too happy.

this was sorta a concern since before the car was released based on the appearance of show Z cars.

it was part of what drove me to get the leather.

when you get in, try to open your door all the way open, and dont slide down into the seat rubbing on the side bolster, hit straight into the bucket.

My seats seem just as nice as the day I picked it up. I have 4k miles. Are you a large bodied person? Are your pants made out of really coarse material?

Aren't the seats warranted anyway?

I doubt they'd be warranted for normal wear and tear. Now, if there's some big defect and all seats are wearing an extreme amount, Nissan should do something about it.

I wear jeans a lot, but I've been very careful so far (around 2,000 miles). I usually even take out my billfold and chuck it into the empty nav bin.

Can't see any wear yet - I'm about average size.

The quality of the cloth seats are poor. Not thick like most cloth seats. They are almost paper thin. Good thing I have leather. If you pay in the mid 30s for a car you have to get leather!

I didn't pay in the mid-thirties. :D

the Z cloth seats are a woven cloth, not the cheapy velvet cloth that is "normal". a bit nicer looking than the cheap cloth you see in a minivan or something... but that doesnt help with the wear issue, and it is sorta the cause.

Jason Mar 11, 2003 05:24 PM

Right, the cloth on the Z isn't cheap feeling at ALL. It's less of a shaggy cloth like most family cars and more like canvas.

I personally haven't had any problems. I promise you that in 10 years the leather won't look any better than the cloth in most 350Zs :)

Apexi350z Mar 11, 2003 05:50 PM

12000 miles so far, and no problem with my seats.. The seats should last you a long time..

I frequently apply leather lotion to make it last!

I specifically got the performance because I hate leather. My TT RX7 had leather and my TT supra had leather and they both ended up looking like **** eventhough I took very good care of them. I'm 145lbs so I don't think my body has anything to do with it. My dad just bought a brand new Toyota 4 runner with cloth interior and it has 1500 miles on it and you can definitely tell a difference in quality. His 98 4 runner has 90k miles on it with cloth seats and they look exactly the way they did when it was new.

I take car getting in and out of the car, but it doesn't seem to matter. I read an old R&T where they mentioned a concern for the cloth seats.

That's because you aren't from California or Texas.

I love leather. Cloth can't compare. If it wears out, I'll get some katzkin leather covers.

breakerboy Mar 11, 2003 08:37 PM

I have about 1500 miles now, my seats look fine...Anyways, my plan orignally was to get leather installed right away..but the funny thing is the seats are growing on me.. In fact, everbody that has sat in my car doesnt realize the seats arent leather till I tell them and they look at it.
Ill probably end up getting some nice two tone leather sometime in the future.

articfury Mar 11, 2003 08:58 PM

Actually, the premature wearing of the cloth is a known issue to NNA. They are looking into a solution. Nothing is definite yet.

The issue is exacerbated if you wear jeans often.

My seats have been showing excessive wear since 3000 miles.

WHAT? Your telling us your friends get in and think your cloth seats are leather? What, they still driving pinto's or pacers or something?

spf4000 Mar 11, 2003 09:27 PM

I'm at 1600 miles and I'm starting to see the beginnings of wear on my side bolsters. I love the seats (besides that weight-shift clunking), but if this wearing becomes an issue, I'm just going to get Recaro seats as a replacement.

Selski12 Mar 11, 2003 09:46 PM

~2600 miles and no signs of wear. I wanted to change them to all red leather but figured these seats are still new and I'll just wait till they wear out. Plus, theres no maintenance needed. :p

Zmoney Mar 12, 2003 03:41 AM

1000 miles no wear, I am about 185lbs. I hate leather, had it in my Mustang vert, C5vette. Leather is cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
