can't read the dip stick....

This car has the crappiest dipstick evaaaaaaarrrrr!! First it's irritating to take out and even worse to put back in.., then I have to clean it off about 5 times just to get an accurate reading ( WHICH BY THE WAY WAS 2 QUARTS LOW AFTER 2000 MILES!!!!! ) First the EVO gave me issues, now this car is turning to a P.O.S. If this keeps up I'm going to take the mods off and F@#kin burn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!:icon20:

What do you expect? You do have the rev-"consumes lots of oil"-up motor in it!
Peace!

glowz825 Jan 8, 2007 04:46 PM

my 06' was down about a quart and 1/2, Then all of a sudden it stops consuming oil and there is no more black residue on my exhaust tips. So my consumption issue seemed to be a break in issue. The car now has 4500 miles and not one drop consumed yet

Pull the dipstick slightly right and forward, then it comes right out.

Hold it in the same orientation to put it back in.

No problem.

Except you're still not going to get a clean reading! I've thought about creating something that will at least allow a better reading.

Sweet!... My z just stopped getting black residue in the tail pipes too. I have 4800 miles. But I thought it was the MREV2 and spacer leaning things out.

Weird thing is that my wife's 06z NEVER got any black residue on the tail pipes.

To get a good reading, make sure the engine has been off for an hour, if not you'll get a lot of residual oil. Take the stick out and wipe it off. Put it back in (without twisting), leave it or 1/2 a second and pull it out quickly. Immediately hold it horizontal so the oil doesn't drip too much. This has been the only method that has worked consistently for me.

FYI - Dip stick has been redesigned and improved for the 07 Z.

the dipsh!t dip stick is as old as the internal combustion engine itself....someone needs to make a digital monitoring system ASAP.:)

I am so so sorry about your dyno numbers. It must suck to put so much money into a car and have no pay-off in the end.

yeah they really are kinda bad, no offense. Have you reflashed your ECU?

aren21 Jan 8, 2007 10:18 PM

You want a good reading?? Theres really only one way to do it. I let the car sit overnight in the garage (so its leveled), then in the morning I check it. If you just changed your oil, its still hard to see it, but after about 1k miles, it darkens a little so its easier to see. Good luck.

i would never take my Z to jiffy lube.

zand02max Jan 9, 2007 02:10 AM

The 07's should be way easier, not sure if the dipstick is the same though!

LMAO you let Jiffy Lube do your oil changes ?????
Last time my friend did that they overfilled her Neon ummm wasn't
a good thing haha and yeah dipsticks a pain but accurate as I found out
and I too was running somewhat low on oil after 2500 miles. Iam doing the
oil consumption test now and will return to dealer in bout a month or so.
This is not a break in issue as my car has just over 9000 miles.

Category5 Jan 9, 2007 05:41 AM

I've found that if you check it first thing in the morning, after the oil has settled, it's much easier to read. Go Gators!
