Aren't you glad you pre-ordered?

Here it comes... I can feel the bum rush about to start. It is going to get nasty folks, and I do mean VERY nasty. I can sense the vibrations on the ground - the pre-order gates are closed and the late comers (bulls) are about to come a-trampling. Aren't you glad you pre-ordered?

I'm seriously feeling for the newbies about to arrive. This car is going to definitely be in very high demand and price gouging is going to be outrageous. Dealers are foaming at the mouth. How much do you think the new order Z's will go over MSRP? I'm think it'll start at roughly 2k and work up to 5k. Edmonds is already predicting 2k over MSRP.

BullishZ Jul 22, 2002 09:04 PM

At least $2,000 markup... probably more here in Southern California.

The yuppies will jump on it.

Keh, Sahra-Sahra!!

or however they spell it

I bought a Z3 after they were out for about a year, but they were still rare in my neck of the woods. It was a great experience and I feel adds to the value of the car. I feel even though I am paying MSRP, it's like I got $3000 off because the next wave will be sold at a premium.

was on a list in dec, preordered in jan. I am having a blast with this whole thing. I have had so much fun coming here and finding out little bits and pieces for all these months. I have become a fanatic. I don't think I ever would have gotten into a car as much if I just walked into a dealership and bought it. ( and I know I wouldn't have joined a forum like this and met all of you nice folks)

To be quite honest I'm little afraid I won't have as much fun once the car comes in.

well, maybe not.

already there..Charter member #42.

I also remember some of you post, throbbing_Zon, from before any one had heard about the Z (like back in jan, feb). Just one of the perks of being a lurker.

Got to ride in a G-35 today...had a taste of the manual shift automatic that I ordered in my Z....we are all going to have a great time with this car:D :D :D

Yeah but when you live in Goose Creek, SC (like me) there's no need to pre-order. There has never been a shortage of so-called "hot cars" here. Plus, there are 2 Nissan dealers within 15 minutes. I've never pre-ordered anything in my life and I don't intend to do it with cars. I'd rather wait a year (I'm not a desperate fanatic ;)) and at least try to get the car for a bit below MSRP. I mean the New Beetle was going for upwards of $25K+ when they first came out...Now they can't give them away.

I'm only 17 anyway, so I couldn't afford one if I wanted to. The New Z is just a dream for now. :(

Plus, kinks are ironed out during the first year. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I would never be the first person to get a new "hot car." I know I'm being overly cautious, but what if for some stange reasons the New Z is not making the claimed power (a la the SVT Cobra fiasco a short while back) or has some other problem(s). I don't think they'd be anything drastic, but I could never pay MSRP or above with those kinds of worries on my mind. But that's just me. And me is a little strange. ;)

Wow, you folks live life on the wild side there in Goose Creek, SC, don't you?:)

Like you would not even believe, friend. :D ;)

I don't know how much gouging will take place given that many people have taken huge hits in their portfolios. They may be less apt to bite if the price is way over sticker until the stock market turns around. That may start to happen by the time the first set of Z's for dealer inventory arrives.

Regardless, pre-ordering still has its advantages in terms of being able to get the exact model, color, and options. Glad I avoided the hassle of buying from dealer stock.

3rdpower,
The nastiness has already begun. I was posting the other day and somebody was blasting me - us (ALL posters here) for buying a car we've never driven...he went on to say that he was sure nobody on this thread probably could afford a Z...I wouldn't order the first year...you all are crazy...blah...blah...blah.
I responded and minutes later Scaf or somebody deleted his comments and the thread he started. He was abolished in no time.
I was glad I was able to get a post(jab) in before it was deleted. It was theraputic(sp?) for me. :D I told him if he didn't like it here to put it in gear and move on...among other things.
I say bring them on. I'm not a confrontational kind of person but I can post with the best of them and if I miss a beat I've got you guys watch'n my back side. ;)
Pride <--vs--> Envy

LET'S KEEP THE HIGH ROAD AND ENJOY THIS RIDE! :D :D :D :D

About what? Goose Creek? It's a small-ish town, just over 30K people and about 20 miles from Charleston. There's nothing much to do, nothing much goes on.

If you're asking about my username, it means, well, "I want a new Lex." Seriously though, I'm a frequent poster at ClubLexus. I drive a 1990 ES250 but recently fell in love with the New Z (I didn't care much for it at first  ). I wanted to find a good New Z forum, so I PM'ed TXSTYLE (a mod here and at ClubLexus) and he directed me here.

TCL: Seeing as I'm young and poor, if I were to get a Z I would get the base model with no options. And I'd be damn happy. :D

wantAnewLex,

Was in Charleston for the first time last August (ouch - it is hot there then). Thoroughly enjoyed the area. Completely different from the Pacific Northwest.

The latter part of last week we saw triple digits (not heat index). I think it was a record. Summer is the wrong time to visit Chucktown...Come in April next time :D. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. It is a nice city.
