hope this does'nt silly but

what's up with the dip stick on these cars. every tmie i check the oil it takes
8 or 9 tries to get it back in place, real pain. other than that these cars are a blast to drive and i traded a vette in on mine a 04 roadster.

Tubbs Mar 25, 2007 03:59 PM

you get used to it.

FALLEN1z Mar 25, 2007 04:01 PM

i did it once and i dont trust it anymore. i dont trust it gives me an accurate reading because it makes so many bends and smeers the oil around

jcpeyton Mar 25, 2007 04:01 PM

Agreed. The dipstick placement on my '04 ZR is just plain stupid. Once I got it jammed against the engine wall and spent 20 minutes trying to gently remove it. Prolly my fault for being careless w/ a part I knew was difficult, but still a major pain in the ass. I think later models have the dipstick relocated.

I1DER Mar 25, 2007 04:01 PM

yep, worst dip stick dip sh!t on any car I've seen. The '07s solved the problem in a huge way. All I can say is that with practice it gets easier, but you still need light if in a garage.

You have to pull, read, wipe, insert, pull, reread, rewipe, and :bang:

HighwaySpeed Mar 25, 2007 04:22 PM

Condition corrected on the '07 models.

Give the oil in the tube time to drain back down for 20 mins or so after the first wipe...helps a bit.

yeah particularly if you've got an 06

My first car had an equally bad dipstick...after driving it for a year, i remember checking the oil on another random car and thinking "Oh my god! I never knew checking oil could be so easy!" Honestly ease of dipstick use was one thing I was really looking forward to when I sold that car. Then i went and got a Z and screwed that whole plan up.

I was at a gas station and decided to check my oil one day. I couldn't get the damn thing back in and I had guys coming up to me asking if they could help :icon20: :o

no, I'm sure it was the chance to make fun of a girl that drives a Z and can't get the dipstick back in :icon17:

sabrefanpc Mar 25, 2007 07:28 PM

never had much issues getting it back in but trying to read it is a major p.i.t.a

Casanova Mar 25, 2007 09:48 PM

leeboyNY Mar 25, 2007 10:06 PM

I don't know if this works for everybody, but when I put the dip stick back in.. it gets stuck about half way in.. when this happens I twist the dipstick a little as if it's a screwdriver, then it goes it in smoothly. Try that next time..
