Key being it was a MT not an auto. I know when I was search for Zs I never looked for autos which cut my options by at least 1/3.

I bought my 05 Track OTD for ~$36k and now its worth maybe $24k. I haven't even had it two years yet.

I'm not concerned though. I didn't buy this car to worry about its resale. I'll be keeping it awhile, probably long after I pay it off.

As for those JD Power stats, they are way out of wack. First of all, all models of a particular car are lumped together. Second, any study that rates Buick and Cadillac as more reliable than Toyota and Honda has got to be all screwed up. If you want to get accurate ratings go to Consumers Reports (April edition)and look at individual ratings on the model of each car. The 350 Z is rated as average since 2003. There is a breakdown of repair rates in various areas and the Z holds up very well compared to other cars and is impressive as a sports car (which may get harder handling). I have my suspicions with JD Powers. They let everone use there stuff, all manufacturers. Consumers Reports has more integrity and has always been a lot more believable.

i bought my 2004 in jan. 2005 for $28k, now with 32.6k miles on it, it dropped 9k.....that's 9k in little more than 2yrs.
A car's quality or reliability has little to do with its resale value. VWs and Mercedes tend to hold their resale value for some bizarre reason despite their terrible reliability. The Z doesn't lose its value nearly as bad as the Maxima... (I had an 02, which I actually liked a lot).

As others have stated, cars are a terrible investment. They always lose value.

they're getting so low that parents are buying it for their 16 year olds ... price of used z = price of new civic si, and ofcourse, kids will choose the Z ...

People who pay top dollar to have a virgin, shouldn't complain about the drop in value once the cherry has been popped. That happens the day you drive any new car off the lot. If they want to keep having virgins, they have to keep paying premium price. If you're going to complain, don't blame your finicky habits on the car.

If you're going to marry the car, buy it new. If you just want a 2 year stand, get something that already has a track record and less pizazz and mystique.

You think Z Resell Value is bad now, Wait till the Re-Design.. The Current Z Will drop like a stone. (As does EVERY sports car after a re-design)

Compare it to "the other" car(s) you were looking at before you bought your z. For me it was the mustang GT and the Mazda rx8 and both have dropped from the original price about as much as the z.

RX8 resell values suck...

Do you have sexy wheels on your car and is it lowered??? Sometimes all it takes is some wheels...hahahaha.

On a more serious note I got a very clean salvage title 2003 touring Z for 17.5 with less then 19k, it had wind damage from a storm. There was nothing wrong with the chassis and was definitely not a water car.

I still think i got a pretty good deal. Yeah there are a few thing like a really small dent but nothing too serious. So when it comes too resale on a popular car it sucks for the buyer who buys it new and then decides to sell it in 2 years.

I would really hate to see the Z as another car for every teenager to have but i think it's going to be the next 240SX, but the parts should become cheaper.

Something to think about is the price that the RX7 kept. There 13k now but compared to the RX8 it has had a better resale value, but of course they were only produced for 3 years over here so it's kind of rare.

If you want a car that holds it value buy a Supra.
