man oh man, why didn't nissan install an interior trunk release button?

me, sitting in the car, idling: "okay just push the button to release the trunk!"

friend, standing outside behind my car: "huh?"

me: "the button! its hidden! above the license plate!"

friend: "where?"

me: "right there, it's rubber button!"

friend, fumbiling around: "huh? it doesn't work?":icon14:

There is an inner release, But the geniuses at Nissan put it under the rear support bar.

yeah but that one is more of an emergency manual release for when your car battery is dead.

hahah man... happens all the time. And it sux cuz the key FOB doesn't work when the key is in. I just get out and show them... kinda of annoying tho. But even the 2nd or 3rd time they still fumble around looking for it.

Woulda been another $500 on top of MSRP.

I have actually thought about rigging one up. Nothing that a lil spool of wire, and a $0.99 momentary button from Radio Shack can't fix. I'd just wire it up to the button in the rear, and run the wires up the side of the car along my speaker wire, and put the button next to the gas release or something.

that is good to know, i've never had to use it but if i needed to i would have had to pull out the manual and do some reading. I do like the idea of having a separate switch installed just for the ease of use, if you ever need to.

I posted a DIY sometime ago on how to install one.

The '03, when this thread was started, did NOT have one in the glove box. I got over it in, oh about, 2 days. Although it is always a mystery why nice features on previous models, like my Z32, were not carried forward to the new ones, but Nissan continued the trend when the TPMS display dropped the actual pressure for each wheel in what, '06? Scratching my head over that one too.

It's a safety issue. Think for a moment about all the bad things that could happen if you accidentally popped the hatch at highway speeds. None of those things can happen if you're standing in back of the car.
