DIY – 2007 350Z coupe Dash button to open rear hatch
I wanted a button on the dash to open the hatch. I can open it now using the key fob or button above the license plate but wanted the dash button. I did this to my 03 350Z and the wiring is a little different but I will talk about that wiring at the end DIY. I suspect the 03-06 wiring is the same and the 07-08 is the same, but not sure of this. Convertibles are different, I suspect.
The wiring is pretty simple, its a matter of getting access to the connectors on the body control module (BCM), located under the drivers kick panel.
The BCM has 2 white connectors and 1 black connector on it and is located below the fuse box. I decided to put the momentary push button switch in the switch blank beside the VDC button.so I needed to take the panel partly off below the steering wheel. You can obviously mount the button pretty well any place.
Tools I used:
10 mm wrench to disconnect battery
Philips and flat screwdriver
soldering iron
wire stripper
crimping tool
drill and ½ inch bit
Parts used:
solder
2 ring connectors and 2 male and 2 female bullet connectors
Electrical tape
Momentary push button switch
Process 1
Disconnect battery
remove dead pedal
remove drivers side kick panel
remove black connector (M91) from BCM and bridge (solder) a wire long enough to reach the new switch on to the gray (GY) wire (pin 42). This is the hot (always on).
Remove the smaller white connector with the fewest wires on it that is mounted horizontally from BCM and bridge (solder) a wire long enough to reach the new switch on to the blue/red (L/R) wire (pin 68). This is the wire that goes back to the solenoid that opens the hatch.
Process 2 is only necessary if you want to mount the switch where I did.
Process 2:
Disconnect partially the panel below the steering wheel.
Remove the blank switch by lifting the tabs at the bottom and top of the blank with a flat screwdriver or equivalent and push it out the back.
Drill a pilot hole in the center of the blank and then drill a 1/2” hole ( or whatever size your switch needs).
Mount your switch in the blank. I wired short extensions with bullet connectors on to mine for ease of hookup to the wires from the BCM.
Connect the wires up connect the battery and test it. If it works put your panels back on and your good to go.
For the 2003 coupe the process is the same except get your 12v hot from connector M1 pin 28 and your solenoid connection from connector B4 (white) pin 19 purple wire.
See PG-72 in the FSM for the 2003 coupe.
