NA. But with any motor around 100k its getting tired.

Mine still was great up to 140k , at 153k it is starting to feel a little tired. It still holds its own , has been beaten to hell since I got it. Any car that hasn't seen continues track use at 100k will still be really fresh

Because I have a forged , balanced , ported motor with huge cams being built. Then I remove the current motor and build it up as a spare.

but still...that was kinda rutard.

To replace my stock motor with a fresh built motor before I blow the stock one ? If I leave the stock one in I have little doubt that it would pass 200k, I just don't feel like leaving it in the car that long to see how long it actually goes.

The car is driven hard, if it lasts, it lasts. It is is a crap shoot every time I hit the track. I'm not going to hold back potential and keep the tired/stock motor in it.

I don't want it to blow either, I want a usable block, crank and heads for its next build

Im sure it has never seen the track. Although the fruit cake that had it before me painted the silver in the interior black and it had unbody lights.:suicide:

I laid a beaten on it and I may have had a slight oil smell. But no ticks or taps in motor.

Nissan designed the VQ engine to cover 200,000 miles but then there are variables within that. Did it get serviced at regular service intervals? What quality of oil was used at oil changes? I would imagine that the 200,000 miles is based on daily usage and not being driven to the redline between each gearchange on a track. Give your motor a compression test and see what state its in and if its within tolerances, enjoy thrashing it to within an inch of its life.

I've tracked mine at 210k miles and still autocross it almost monthly with no issues.

Very nice russ and at 210k im very impressed with the durability. Have you own since new?

Russ@Z1 03-07-2013 07:00 PM

No, I've owned it since it had 18k miles. The motor itself has never been touched. It's gained bolt on items and tune, but the lower plenum has never been off, nor has anything below the plenum. The only items I've replaced were the cam sensors, power steering pump, and alternator.

that is not true of today's modern engines. most engines today are expected to make 100k miles if not 200k-300k. in fact some engines dont require any major servicing other than oil changes till at least than 100k miles.

Knock on wood by my Z has had no major service up to 128k (current). Amazing what modern engines are capable of. I use synthetic oils such as Mobil 1, and amsoil. Engine oil chance intervals at 7500k.

The VQ is an incredibly durable engine. At 100k you have just barely got it broken in good! While I've only got 76,000 on mine so far, a guy I know has 320,000 on his '03 (daily driver and sees lots of long highway trips on a regular basis) and it still runs great! He hasn't done anything to the engine except routine maintenance (timing, belts, seals, water pump, etc -- but he's never gotten into the internals) at the correct intervals and he is meticulous about oil changes. Keep your fluids fresh and a VQDE will last a loooonnnngggg time --- even if you do rev the hell out of it!!

Wow this would of made me want it even more before i bought it. Although I think my throw bearing might be going.
