Getting my totaled Z back to the streets.

As some of you might know a couple of weeks ago the crazy weather left some flooded areas unfortunatly I was driving when the streets of my city were flooded didn't had anywhere to go so water got into the engine (hydrolock). After waiting for a response on my insurance they divided to totaled my car of course as a true lover of the 350z I didn't wanted to let it go so I bought it back with salvage title for a cheap!!! price.

Calinismo350z 10-06-2013 07:52 PM

after taking the engine apart to check how much water was inside this is what I found.

I was going to to do a swap was leaning more for a 2jz or build my whole engine. But since I'm only 24 decided to save that money and use it for something good in my life (house). after some thinking I bought an engine from a member (Mr.white) witch it seem pretty cheap (800$)for an engine with 30k miles, also bought some Nismo headers from him. Nice guy.

What happened to the body? In the first picture, the door doesn't line up with the front fender, and the bumper is crooked around the headlight.

the door looks fine with the front fender. The after market bumper most likely is a replica therefore, fitment isn't 100% OEM

winchman 10-07-2013 04:02 AM

Shouldn't this body line be straight?

Like this one is.

the door it's fine, prob just the angle of the picture or something. and the bumper it's aftermarket ED V3 never thought it was gonna fit that ugly but oh well should be upgrading bumper after I fix the engine.

I think that is the way the light is reflecting? :dunno:

350zchad 10-07-2013 05:58 AM

800 does seem cheap! Awesome! Curiosity... what did ins give you and how much to buy it back?

in this one you can see the line is straight. http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...ps66f1dae7.jpg

I'd say you made a good choice!

oldschool350z 10-07-2013 08:05 AM

The mods alone are worth what you bought it back for nice!

DAAAYYYUMMMMMM !!!!! That makes me want to drive mine through a puddle!!!

But I agree you made the better decision. Say spend 4k fixing this with some other new goodies
and then have 10k to invest or save

Calinismo350z 10-07-2013 08:18 AM

last night I had some time to kill so I finished heat wrapping the headers and polishing cam covers.By the way I decided to go with metallic gold to match my brake setup.http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2358a0a9.jpghttp://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8bc96be6.jpg

oldschool350z 10-07-2013 08:24 AM

Wow that will be a beast.

How many miles were on it before this happened?

haha. but don just drive into a puddle then the insurance it's not gonna cover the damage since they can assume it was intentional.

cocobrotha76 10-07-2013 08:28 AM

nice what insurance do u have? maybe I need to transfer to them

it was right in 80k miles. to be honest I think they over payed me since my Z it's a base model and I didn't had any aftermarket parts on the policy.

Z33Garage 10-07-2013 09:46 AM

I would say you got a fantastic deal! subbed for updates!

Callmetony 10-07-2013 12:34 PM

The deal is nice, but did your monthly rate go up? It shouldn't since it was an "act of god", but ya know.... insurance companies rarely do what they should do....

it was more than nice!!! hmm don't yet but I don't think it will since I wasn't involve in any accident.

Calinismo350z 10-07-2013 04:20 PM

while I'm eating on some parts to get here working on the intake pletnum. it's a B*#*! to polish this thing. so far I have 10 hours invested on this and it seems like I'm still gonna need 10 more hours. Should look nice and shiny once it's done. http://i1160.photobucket.com/albums/...psd2b9c09c.jpg

Calinismo350z 10-08-2013 07:09 PM

Calinismo350z 10-23-2013 05:32 PM

installed tomei cams and assembled the engine together. Guys don't be scared to swap your cams it's pretty straight forward if you have the service manual it tells you step by step.

yes. I was gonna with 272s since Z1 had said they were better for my setup but after talking to oldman350z he tolde it was better if I went with 264s.

Bmurray350z 10-23-2013 06:27 PM

Nice. I may get those come January. How many hours would you say they took to install yourself?

just to install them around 2 hours a little less but I had everything off already. I'm gonna say 1 hour to take everything apart+ 2 hour to clean gasket and put everything together. so I'm gonna say around 5 hours tops. button engine was off the car.. I'm sure you can do it with the engine on the car it's just gonna be a little more complicated. Besides that everything is pretty easy.

Calinismo350z 10-30-2013 06:02 PM

finished polishing intake pletnum right in time

I took it for a tune back in November but while running we started having some fueling issues at high rpms. but he was able to get 450whp out of it. Came back home and inspect fuel system, found a fuel leak on bank1 fixed it. Need to take it back for a retune hoping to get 480 on 91 and possibly 500+ on 110. The bad thing is that I've been too busy with school and work so it's been sitting at the garage for the past 3 months.

haha. right. but if it comes to driving trough a puddle of water insurance won't cover.! The day my accident happened it was flooded everywhere because of heavy rain. That's why my insurance pay for it. (natural disaster) .
