Do you drive your Z in the winter (in snow and on ice)?

I’ve read threads here advising against driving the Z in snow and on ice during the winter months.

I wonder why anyone believes they cannot drive a 350z in snow and on ice.

i just don't want the salt on my car is my reason.

WeightLimit 12-22-2013 02:31 PM

Once, only once. Then I looked underneath my car. It's going to take a lot of work to undo the damage the salt did. Salt up here's a *****.

Spike100 12-22-2013 02:33 PM

^^ But, wouldn't you get salt on any car you drove in Webster?

problem is for the same issue, it's prolly cheaper to deal with on a winter beater than your z

Texas325 12-22-2013 03:29 PM

I don't because of: 1) Salt and 2) Stock Summer tires.

OK… I think that I get it…

My “winter beater” is a Jeep that costs a lot more than my 350z.

Nope, and since I moved to Ohio this state uses a TON of salt on the roads. I do hose off my cars (wheel wells/under carriage) after they have been driven in these conditions.

secwind 12-22-2013 04:06 PM

No, I put it in a bubble.

dkmura 12-22-2013 04:34 PM

I live in Colorado and believe it or not, there are many fall and winter days when the roads are clear enough to take the Z out. But with max performance summer tires, it's just not smart to get it out when the temps go below freezing. The rubber compound is not optimal for those low temperatures, much less snow and ice.

Yes, I have my winter car I paid $1500 for that I don't care if it rusts away. I drive my car usually from April-Oct., if I'm lucky. I still get some rust though. Humidity up here is a pain also.

I'm not a big fan of winter. Hopefully I'm getting my butt outta here and back to AZ next year.

I drive mine in the winter all the time, I also have Toyo r888 tires.

KornerCarver 12-22-2013 04:43 PM

I don't drive my Z in the rain, so I'm not getting it out in ice and snow.

The Z *IS* my wife's winter beater so her Solstice GXP doesn't go in the snow, salt, and risky traffic situations. It rides on oversized GT Radial winter tires to increase ground clearance. It does rather well, although she said the previous M3 was a bit better in the snow; it had different winter tires, so it's hard to say.

SQuaLZ 12-22-2013 06:33 PM

I prefer to drive my B13 in the snow but I have snow tires on my Z in the winter so I don't get stuck somewhere just in case.

I drove my Z in snow and ice on both summer tires and snow tires and WHAT A DIFFERENCE tires make. One of the best investments I made on my Z.

Here is a pic from last year.

Solstice will never see snow; winter driving is a task for the 350Z. Solstice is hibernating along with the Z06.

Golden_Armz 12-22-2013 08:23 PM

Never driven the Z in the snow but I doubt that it will drive well

Suwaidi 12-23-2013 12:26 AM

With snow tires it isn't bad at all in the winter, my only issue is clearance in certain areas.
