Yes, 0-60 is only one side of the picture. But the improvements on the 2012 GT-R also include better aerodynamics, revised suspension geometry and better handling, and better brakes. If you go to the GT-R section and look at the vids that have been posted, you'll see that it's significantly faster and more powerful than previous model years.

So given the improvements (and price increase) on the 2012 GT-R, as well as putting things in perspective relative to other manufacturers' model lineups... I still think it's silly to say that a 400 horsepower Z would be too competitive with the GT-R and would infringe on the GT-R's market segment.

We shall see...;) Of course nothing is set in stone yet and things can potentially change...

However, my inside source hasn't been wrong yet.:icon38: I knew details about the Infiniti EX, 2nd gen FX, 3rd gen M and M56 model, as well as the 370Z long before any accurate info was posted on the forums about them.

400HP doesn't seem far fetched for a new Z car. V8 ---hmm this doesn't seem so likely given that most car manufacturers have scrapped plans for more v8s and are going smaller displacement with FI.
40k is what happened to the last Z so I hope that isn't the direction. Unless there is the new NA Z or FI Z for the top end that splits the difference between the GTR and the base Z. Something need to play in the space of the Toyota FT-86

One of the most popular and recognized Japanese sports cars ever is Nissan’s Z car, and from what we’ve uncovered about the next-generation Z, Nissan is fully aware that this species must evolve if it intends to stay on top of the competition. Part of that evolution may include hybrid power as automakers are caught in the green wave of environmental responsibility that has become a priority.

Though nothing definite has been decided about the next Z, Nissan is experimenting with a number of different power options as you read this. Naturally, one approach on the table is a hybrid powertrain. If the next Z goes that way, it will most likely come in the form of the system currently in the Infiniti M Hybrid, which couples a 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine (known as the VQ35DE) with an electric motor. In the M Hybrid, the setup produces 360 bhp and about 450 lb.-ft. of torque, more than enough punch for a midpriced sports car. In the next-generation Z, fuel economy should be in the neighborhood of 30 mpg. There are rumors of a test mule of the Z with the M Hybrid’s powertrain running around the U.S.

Another option that Nissan is strongly considering is a diesel engine. With Nissan’s recently announced cooperation with Daimler, it has the option of putting one of Mercedes-Benz’s BlueTEC engines under the hood. The most likely candidate would be the 3.0-liter turbodiesel that’s currently in the Mercedes-Benz GL, or something a little bigger. There’s also the chance that Nissan will offer the next-generation Z, which should hit dealerships in 2013, with a number of powertrain choices that include hybrid, diesel and gasoline-only versions. anyways since 370z came out 2009, im looking to buy a nismo, but i dont want to if next year or so 2012-13 they come out with a "HR" version with the nismo haveing 370 HP or something

In other news, it looks like Nissan took a bad hit from the earthquake/tsunami. I hope the country gets its feet on the ground soon.

My next car will hopefully be a blue, mid life cycle model, next gen Z :thumbup:

No he is talking about when people said the M3 would never get a V8, blah blah blah and look, the M3 now has a V8.

On the topic of what is next, the only real evidence we have seen so far is direct injection. The VQ3.7L has been seen with it and even announced the G37 would get it by late 2012, which probably means the 370z will get it at some point also.
