2005 350z GTR Spare tire

I recently had a flat front tire and belatedly realized that the spare that was provided with my 2005 GTR would not fit over the front Brembo calipers.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any luck getting the dealer to swap out for a correct size wheel?

BTW, the search function isn't working at the moment in case this has already been covered:werd:

Changed title for those that might get confused with GTR

Is your spare 16" or 17"?

DavesZ#3 05-13-2010 08:58 AM

If you have a Grand Touring that came with Brembos, then you should have gotten a 17" spare tire. Non-Brembo equipped cars get 16" spares.

I didn't know pre 2006 Grand Touring models came with Brembos...then again, I'm not familiar with verts.

2005 350z GTR with brembos and 18" wheels. Spare clears rear calipers, but not the front.

So you have aftermarket donut tire that won't fit over your GTR brembos?

After 5 years I would say you are SOL unless you do alot of business with them, you know someone who works there, or they are a very nice dealership.

But it couldnt hurt to ask.

Some years back, my BF’s 4Runner suffered a flat tire. When he went to jack it up to install the spare, he discovered the jack had a defect and wouldn’t function. The truck was marooned in an awkward place and since there was no other jack at hand that would fit, I took the defective jack into the nearby Toyota dealer. The truck was well past the warranty period, but like your mismatched spare wheel, the defect had obviously been there from day one. As in your situation, this was the first flat tire and the first opportunity to discover the defect. I don’t know about Nissan North America, but a 30 second call from the dealer to Toyota Canada had me on my way with a shinny new jack.

That's been the problem with all Brembos. We tell people who upgrade to Brembos who don't want to buy a 17" spare that when they get a flat on the front, take a wheel off the back and put it on the front, then put the spare on the rear. Turn off TCS/VDC and you're good to go.

Did you buy the car new?

jcandas 05-13-2010 07:41 PM

This is the spare that came with the car. The Brembos, and the wheels were all factory standard, none of my stuff is after-market. It came directly from Nissan. I purchased the car brand new, from a Nissan Dealership, that I went to, in person.

In other words, Nissan issued a spare that does not fit with their options on their trim level.

again is this the front tire that was flat? if so im sure it states in the manual that you need to remove the rear wheel place it on the front and use the spare on the rear.

I hear you, but I have a hard time believing this is their answer...I called the dealership and the service rep didn't even know of the issue.

Don't tell me I bought a 17" spare for nothing :icon22:

I’d be cautious about the “rear wheel on the front, and spare on the rear” recommendation. This is not in my manual. If you look at the front hub, you will see a post that protrudes out from between two of the wheel studs. The purpose of this post is to keep the staggered rear wheels from accidentally being installed on the front. (Stock front wheels and the spare have pockets to accommodate the post, rear wheels don’t.

A large number of aftermarket wheels don’t have these pockets, but it’s not a problem as the post can be removed. However, if you get a flat out on the road you won’t have the tools available to remove this post so that a rear wheel can be
mounted on the front.

It’s my guess that someone mixed up the spare tires at the dealership before you took delivery. I’d make a trip back there to get them to supply the correct spare for your car.

Parts wise they list a spare for brembo equiped models.
