Has anyone besides me ordered the smoothline hardtop?

I placed my order back in early Feb. Hoping it will ship soon. Has anyone else ordered one?

RodgePodge 04-11-2011 01:03 PM

At first I didn't like it but it grew on me. Once a get my bonus I might buy one. What did you order? Any extras? And why did you want one? Looks, functionality, etc...

I am going top paint it to match my car. Got it cause my softtop needs replacing so instead I got the hardtop. I should ship next week. Once painted I will post pics.

RodgePodge 04-11-2011 06:59 PM

I'm very interested for pics. What will you do when you go driving without it and you stop somewhere? Put the soft top up or just leave the top off?

This is a play car for me. I will only drive while nice out anyway. This is mainly a winter thing for me.

RodgePodge 04-11-2011 07:15 PM

Very cool! I hope the top is awesome and I'm anxious to see it!!

-TrtleSpeedZ- 04-12-2011 11:27 AM

same here. cant wait to see it!

NismoZR 04-12-2011 12:35 PM

Can't wait to see some pics.

I can't wait to see it (:

driftk1d 04-17-2011 12:42 AM

In for pics! If yours looks good I'm ordering it! :)

Resmarted 04-17-2011 02:12 PM

Ordered one, asked when it would be coming, they haven't replied. Waiting game...
They withdrew 500$ so far. I'd expect better response from smoothline, esp since they took money... a bit shady if you ask me.

Cux350z 04-17-2011 02:17 PM

ah cool, a local will have one.

Anthony@PMsport 04-30-2011 01:25 PM

I would like one, But honestly, Im a bit skeptical about the company. Never heard of them prior to this and its been a longggg time now since the first post sparking interest in the top with very little content and replies back to people. I feel like they are going to be wayy behind on shipping to people. I hope Im wrong bc I would like to see one painted with clear pics. Those cell phone pics they are using to advertise are also making me weary on the quality.

I'll wait to see everyone else's...

+1, still no reply to emails. I'm going to call them this week... I really hope they are just slow, I don't want to go through a legal process to get $500 bucks back...

scruggyj 05-01-2011 03:54 PM

I spoke to them last week. Waiting on rubber gaskets to arrive. Hope to ship mine next week.

sssmasss 05-01-2011 07:53 PM

ME waited for it to come out, saw it, do not want to buy it.

Flick Montana 05-02-2011 06:45 AM

I'll wait for someone else to be the guinea pig before I make a decision.

hahhaha :)

Anthony@PMsport 05-03-2011 06:39 AM

its surprising how they don't really care to see if anyone is talking about their new product, to sort of get an insight of how well the sales will do, and how they don't even reply in these threads (which are prob their biggest market place)

It's just bad PR that is not in their favor.

scruggyj 05-06-2011 12:00 PM

Well Smoothine call today and said that my hardtop shipped via FedEx Freight. It should be here on Tuesday. As soon as the bodyshop gets around to painting it I will get some pics up for you guys to see.

Any chance you can run down there and take some pics of the actual production unit before paint? I'd be interested to see what it takes to get this thing street ready.

RodgePodge 05-06-2011 12:31 PM

Also, could we please have interior and exterior pics of the product along with the trim level of the top. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys. I will get some pics during the test fit...etc. Not a problem.

scruggyj 05-10-2011 10:56 AM

The hardtop has arrived - I had it shipped to my body shop as shipping to a business was cheaper. I got some quick pics.

Looks pretty good except for the very back under the window seems kind of thin. Some small stress cracks I guess from shipping. I hope putting the window in will help make it a little more sturdy.

the shop can't fit me in until May 23rd. So at that time I will test fit and have them paint and assemble. Would hope to have it back by the end of that week.

I just ordered the base top with the primer finish. The interior is just like a charcol carpet glued to the inside. However, you could upgrade that if that is what you want.

Once I get the top done and installed I will take pics and start a new thread and put a link to it in this one.

Does that fit in the trunk?

No it is too big to fit in the trunk.

RodgePodge 05-10-2011 01:44 PM

How sturdy does it feel? Are the latches just on the rear and across the top of the windshield?

I just snapped a few pics and had to get back to work. Once I get it home after paint in about 2 weeks I can get a better report. For now the only part that could be unsturdy is the thin strip below the window. It does have a 1 year warranty.

Resmarted 05-13-2011 12:39 PM

wait, don't tell me it doesn't come with glass LOL.
No but mine should have been shipped today... we shall see shortly...

pmab9918 05-13-2011 12:45 PM

Lol now you will have part of my car on yours (mine was used as the mold). Congrats on the purchase! Cant wait to see the final painted product :)

The glass and rubber gaskets are in the box. If you ordered your top unfinished then it comes like that so you can get a good paint job on it and then put on the gaskets and window.

RodgePodge 05-13-2011 04:59 PM

Mine is just the base product with the primer (ready to paint) finish. I did NOT upgrade to anything else.

cplreyes 05-13-2011 11:01 PM

just wrap in carbon fiber, it'll probably look really good and cheaper than a paint job.

Awesome... I'll check back in a few days to see your progress. Have a good one bro.

RodgePodge 05-26-2011 11:04 PM

I look forward to seeing it and to getting a real review from someone in this community

scruggyj 05-27-2011 10:08 AM

test fit pics

I went by the body shop and got some quick pics. Overall I think it looks pretty good. This is just a quick test fit so once I get it painted and intalled all the way I can give a better review but for now here are some pics.

I plan to have it painted red to match the car - now it is just a primer flat black.

Can't see it too good here but there is a section that goes over and a section that goes under the windshield to hold it down. There are no latches for the front.

This is one of the side hooks. It hooks in by the seatbelt under the spring loaded door.

This is the back hook.

Looks good!! Not sure how I feel about those hooks but I like the way it looks! Thanks for the pics!

bmccann101 05-27-2011 10:33 AM

carbon fiber for the win btw.....

otherwise.. its a coupe, yet even smaller now.

Dunno.. im 6'4.. could never fit a convertbl anyways.
props to a one of a kind so far tho.

driftk1d 05-27-2011 08:11 PM

looks smooth. how exactly do the hooks work? is it difficult to get on and off? weight? sorry for all the questions lol

Wow it looks good. Thanks for the pics. We actually have the same wing. It gives it a different look from their test car. Can't wait to see the finished product.

mr. sparco 05-27-2011 09:13 PM

Would look better if they made it look more like the Mugen S2000 hardtop with the character lines flowing past the top of the windows.
