Default APS TT installation: pull motor required?

Hello, curious if it is absolutely necessary to pull the motor when installing an APS TT. My buddy may be doing the install with me if its possible to do without a lift.

Thanks a lot.

yeah the search function does suck..

if you can get a place with a lift and pull the engine.. other than that the only part were you might run into problems is the fuel pump. its pretty straight forward and complete and if you know your way around cars you can do it with a few buddy's and a case of beer

I did it without hte motor pulled, but after all was said and done, it probably would have saved 5 of the 32 hours it took to install.

You can take or leave my advise.

I have done the install myself on jackstands in my garage with the motor still installed. It took somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-35 hrs with two sets of hands working for most of those hrs. It can be done.

^that said, I would most definitely pay the closer to 2500 bucks, not $3K, to have the kit installed by a professional. it is not something I will tackle again. I had no major issues with my install, and it was completed in a reasonable amount of time.

I can tell you from your posts that his job is WAY above your head. Unless your friend is a mechanical wiz, you are just asking for trouble by doing a self install. There is a chance that you could do it with great success, but my instincts tell me that just won't be the case. There are almost an infinite number of places that are potential issues when self installing. You will just be biting off way more than you can chew if you attempt this yourself.

Like I have said in a previous thread of yours, a little time away form the net/forums will do you plenty of good. Download and print out the install instructions and read through them a half dozen times untill you know procedure without the need for the paper.

+1 ^^ Thats some good advice and I would also like to add that after you go FI, you better have some extra $$$ in case something goes wrong.I don't know your financial situation, but from what I have read in your posts, it sounds like extra $$$ is going to be tough to come by.
Good Luck.....

<----- waits for a "I blew my motor" thread from jining.

No disrespect, but I can see it coming. I'd take Zivman's advice and pay for a professional intsall and have your car dyno tuned as well. Don't be a penny wise a dollar foolish. Good luck.
