Front Speakers that Don't Need Spacer Rings?
 

Does anybody have suggestions for excellent front-speakers (to go with an Alpine HU) that don't require me to install a spacer ring, yet the window will still clear the back of the speaker?

Probably not any that will sound decent. Is there a reason why you don't want the $2.00 spacer ring?

I want stealth-mode for the aftermarket stuff as much as possible (of course I'm screw*d with HU ;) ). I figured if I avoided the ring it would look "stock" and wouldn't intrude on the cabin at all.

I was under the impression that the stock speakers had sort of a spacer built in, and if you installed aftermarket speakers with an aftermarket spacer then the factory grill would go over it and it would look stock...Is this wrong?

It still looks stock with the spacer ring. The factory speaker has a built in ring in order for the window to clear.

That's good news. I haven't opened the door panel up yet, but every speaker installation post I read said something like: "couldn't mount the front speaker in the stock cut-out without window hitting it, HAD to intall spacer ring so window would clear..."

I wanted to avoid any additional spacers and just get good speakers that would fit without hitting the window.

there's about 3-4" between the door and the door panel. The panel easily clears even with the spacer.

Most speakers with a decent magent wont clear the window mounted in the stock location. I have an alpine head unit and Infinity Kappas. The doors look totally stock, here is a link to some pics of the install.

If you really don't want to install spacers, u might wanna try getting some phoenix gold elite components.........they are by far the thinnest speakers i've seen........and they definitely sound awesome.

My installer suggested using Cadence Neo components. They have a pretty shallow mounting depth and still sounf great. I'm going with the Cadence ZX6 Kit and running spacers as well. Everyone correct about being able to use 1" spacers and still retinaing a steath install. That's what I'm going for also...
