Question on CDT's w/ Upstage Technology
Ok, So I have 2 sets of these speakers sitting here waiting for the install...
My question is if I put the set in the front doors and tweets in the A-pillar will a 2nd set in the rear dash confuse the harmonics? or would it be that much better for a surrounding effect?
I have a nice pair of JL's as well that I was going to put on the trunk lid but I could go either way and put a pair of the CDT's on the trunklid and the JL's on the rear dash... The JL's are coax and not component...
here is the CDT's and my subs....
Link to the speakers....

Thanks for any info you can give.

You're mentioning a lot of speakers there. I think you have enough for two cars.
Why not take CDTs approach and use the Stagefronts up high to raise the soundstage. Your other component tweeters can be mounted on the mids, in the pillar, or in the kick panel.
In the trunklid. Those Efs are almost 3" deep, you will have a hard time even getting them in the stock door location let alone the trunk lid.

I'll argue short of cutting the car down to the ankles of the driver that the front and side windows, seats, roof, dash board, kick panels, and everything else are going to distort the early reflections badly enough that you'll get better imagining from a pair of Radio Shack "liter" speakers sitting on my back deck. Putting a set of tweeters and mid-range/woofers in correct time correction is impossible in a car - even using digital sound processing.
If you want imaging buy a house, set up a listening room correctly, and enjoy. In a car you're better off enjoying the transmission then the radio.
Harmonics? Like resonance? That's a function of the length, width, and height of the car's interior which is way small - about 100 cubic feet fed typically with several hundred watts worth of acoustic energy. I've measured the ring of a couple of Z's and found peaks at the same spots - IIRC that was at 37-42 Hz (length) and 132-140 (width/height?).
Nobody would dare build a sound room that small and if they did there would be no way possible to fix the harmonics. When we build a listening room we use the "golden ratio" and then trap out any problems that are found. Things like the audio mixer board's size and have an influence on the room's sound - think of the dash board's impact.

Can't wait to hear this... The stock Bose stereo is crap in these things.

Holy overkill, Batman!
So you have 2 full sets of the CDT's with upstage and a set of JL components (not pictured)?
I would ditch the jl's since you have 2 sets of the cdt's. The CDT's and the JL's are not timbre matched and it might muddle the sound a bit. I would not use the upstage on the rear components. 8 tweeters in the cabin of a G35 coupe is too many.
Front CDT Components:
mids and tweets in door pods or kick panels
upstage in a-pillar
Rear CDT Components:
Wherever you want to mount them for REAR FILL
you really shouldn't hear that you have speakers in the back unless you are sitting in the back. I actually am one of the guys who feels that you really should just eliminate the rear speakers altogether. You will never get a true-to-life sound in an automobile's environment as stated above. This is just my opinion of course.

Yeah... It might be a bit overkill but it will sound clear. The JL's are actually Coax's not Comps so no tweeters on them...
I am going to put the JL's on the trunk lid they are not as deep as the CDT's and use a set of the CDT tweeters with them back there...
I'll post up a whole writeup when she is done in about a week.
