Yeah, it seems like most of the subs I wanted were Single Voice Coil. My amp only puts out 300 watts at 4ohm but then again, it is a Mac amp and these are very efficent speakers, so I think I will be fine. This version is so new, the U.S. rep for Seas was astonished that I was able to get my hands on it, and to make things worse I got 2 subs at that. I figure i'll have one as a back up and if I don't use it I can always sell it. As far as specs I only know the specs for the old version, which doesn't differ much from the new one except the fact that the new one can hold more power and has a little more low end to it.

Old Specs:

I hope so, now I have to figure out what the hell to do with my old sub. I was thinking about building a box for it in my FJ Cruiser but its just too damn big and I don't want to lose any cargo space.

JimRHIT 05-07-2007 07:51 PM

Be sure to give it the 1.5ft^3 it needs.

The specs are very similar to the subwoofer that I was talking about doing for you ... just Xmax here = 14mm ... the one i was thinking was ~24mm.

You'll be hard pressed to tell the difference with the 500W you have

the other one .... do this :) http://wrskms.com/jimrhit/sub8

Eng from Seas USA was saying that I only needed 1.0 cu ft. I am sure my installer can get 1.5 cu ft as I am putting the two bigger amps in the compartments behind the seats. Only the sub, the sub amp and my 5 farad cap will be in my rear hatch.

Kwame 05-07-2007 08:05 PM

Jim I will e-mail you tomorrow and we will discuss the FJ.

Oh ... I'd have to see the new specs to judge that ... I'd trust the engineer there though.

5 farad cap? Thats .... um ... rediculous :)

JimRHIT 05-07-2007 08:22 PM

This is just me talking here ....

for symmetry sake .. I would flank the sub with one ofthe front amps on each side (if it fits of course)

JimRHIT 05-07-2007 08:26 PM

There is nothing wrong with SVC subs ... it wouldn't be bad to use two of them .... I think that amp would be ok at 2ohms :)

Kwame 05-07-2007 08:39 PM

Your insane. The sub and the two larger amps cannot co-exist in the hatch. NOT HAPPENING. As for two 12s in the car. Holy bejeebus, as dynamic as that would sound I doubt two 12s could fit in the floor of the hatch with enough airspace to boot.

JimRHIT 05-07-2007 08:42 PM

I had 2 12" TS-W12PRS in 2.75ft^3 in my Z :)

I'll see what pics i can dig up

Ahah, I know that car! That was a while ago... I actually work at SoundTrax, and I remember that job well. I just joined up here at My350Z.com, and also just picked up my Z. Searching SoundTrax, I found this, and I was quick to say 'go figure'. If anyone's interested in getting a similar job like this, feel free to stop down. I'd be more than happy to accommodate fellow Z drivers.

Which car are you referring to?

Fairly Z 08-08-2007 05:27 PM

The one for Z1 Performance, when we did the stealth enclosure with the McIntosh amplifier. The one with 'TOUGE' on the license plate, right? I think that was the same car... Anyways, I definitely remember because I helped with it.

Edit: And, whoops. I posted it in the wrong thread, that's why.

Z1 Performance 08-09-2007 05:41 PM

nope, different cars, (Kwame has his, I have mine), but using some similar brands (Mac and Seas)

Jokestrap 08-09-2007 06:17 PM

JL 10w7's are the best IMO and I have had a lot of subs over the past 20 years. Been into good sound and separation in cars for a long time. If you have good mids the w7's will rock for you long time.:)

Fairly Z 08-10-2007 03:53 PM

Ah, okay. So there were two. I remember the one with the McIntosh amplifier well. Anyways, Adam, when I'm looking to increase my performance, I'm coming down to you guys. Think you can take care of me?

azula 08-10-2007 07:41 PM

I'm running a w7 and i must say that i am less than impressed, but whatever....it does the job i guess.

Fairly Z 08-10-2007 09:27 PM

It depends on what amp you're using. I get a lot of customers that spend all the money they have on the sub, and then chump change on an amp. Then, they complain that they're disappointed. If you're running a JL 1000/1 using 4 Gauge or larger wiring, that's where you get the best experience. And, if you are and you're still not satisfied, then there's something wrong with the sub. The W7 is excellent.
