Would two 10" W6's be overkill?

I mostly listen to classic rock, and techno. I occasionally listen to rap, but I don't want to build my system around ridiculous amounts of bass. I was between getting 1 10" w6 or two. Will two w6's be uncomfortably loud, or would they sound nice. I like to be able to turn the bass way up sometimes, but I don't always want to have it pounding. Do you guys think that this would be a good set up me?

where in Cincinnati do are you from? I am in the western hills area. I was thinking about 2 10's or 1 10 too. I think 2 10's would sound good. My plan was to build them behind the seats. Where the glove box and 10 bose is.

We can't answer your question without knowing what your front stage is/will be. It's like asking if a pair of patent leather shoes is too dressy without knowing what clothes you are wearing.

I plan on having the Focal 165k2p's in the front with speaker pods, no rear speakers, and a JL 300/2 amp running the speakers. And mw9 I live right outside of downtown.

One FI Q is all you need for your bass needs.... :icon17:

OK, With those comps and that power to them, you could get away with two 10" w6v3 subs. Maybe drive them with a 1000/1 (since you are using a jl amp on the fronts).

So you don't think the bass would be overpowering?

Oh it can be. My taste is that one 10" is plenty for the Z. but some people have the taste of "more more more". If you are asking about two 10" subs, then perhaps you like to have that impact. If you were to tell me you were leaving the OEM fronts, then I would ave told you NOT to do two 10", but with the focals and the 300/2 you can get a balanced system with the right tuning.

i say get one

anyone i run across that initially is considering 1 or 2 subs, this is a conservative characteristic

you sound on the conservative side

1 sub will do ya

i would say do another sub other than the w6 if you have not purchased yet

get two. you can always turn your amp gain down or cut your low freq down on the deck or eq. one day, when you want more, you'll then be building/buying a new box to accomodate your second 10 if you go solo now.

1 FI Q sounds better than 2 JL 10w6's.. i know it doesn't sound like it makes sense.. but its a true story.. no lie

I have two IDMAX12's in my Z. It's WAY overkill for most people (and underkill for some. :) ). It's perfect for me.

Initially, I had one 10" DLS IR10. It was very clean and would make most people happy. I wanted more bottom end. A different 10" probably would have provided that, but my new design requirements called for two subs.

What DVFlyer doesn't tell you is that he needs to re-torque every nut and bolt ever 6 months!!!

DVFlyer Jan 23, 2008 07:50 AM

I prefer to think of it as constantly improving the vehicle's chassis dynamics. ;)

zdero Jan 23, 2008 08:30 AM

I guess I'll probably just stick with one for now. I have not bought the w6 already, but the FI Q sounds like it might be too much bass for me when I have read reviews about it.

Kwame Jan 23, 2008 07:23 PM

I've never heard two 10s, but two 12s sound like musical bliss.
