Your Best Sounding CD's/Tracks

I know we've got alot of hardcore music guys out there, and in preparation for getting my car back, I picked up a whole bunch of new music, and searched through my cd collection for good stuff that I had bought before and haven't listened to in awhile.

So what are your best sounding disks in your car? I'm not talking your favorite song or cd, but rather the disk that really makes your system shine? The cd's that make you appreciate your system the most? I figure this could be a good way to share some different disks with people. To me, a great sounding song or disk makes you really appreciate the music, even if its not what you typically would listen to

I've only had mine back for a few days but I've already played alot through it :) In no particular order

1. Nirvana - Unplugged. This has always been a favorite of mine, but I haven't listened to it in ages. God damn is this a good sounding disk! So open sounding, with every instrument really well recorded and mixed with alot of care.

2. NAS - Hip Hop is Dead. Another "oh my god this sounds good". I don't know what he did on the title track, but its recorded at a really high output level, and the bass line just hits you hard but yet isn't overpowering. I couldn't imagine how this sounds in a car with dual 12's with alot of power.

3. Dave Matthews Band - Live in Central Park. Kwame can attest to this one....its a freaking amazing sounding disk. Live stuff is sometimes hard to capture well - especially stuff done outside. This was an awesome concert to be at in the first place, and the disk is really awesome. Even if you're not a fan, it's worth picking up.

4. Crimson Tide Soundtrack - alot of different instruments and alot of details
since its an orchestral type score, but really gives a system a workout.

5. Fugees - The Score. Really good production on this disk - they definitely went for something that not only would stand the test of time musically (it still sounds special even all these years later), but you know some real musicians must have been part of the production and mixing, because it sounds simply amazing.

6. Nora Jones - Come Away with Me. Ok, ok, I know...not the most manly music out there. But she has an awesome voice, and again, this is so well recorded, you can't help but like it.

7. Eddie Vedder - Into the Wild Soundtrack. Some of his best written songs ever, and has a really open and warm sound to it..hard to describe, but you'll know what I mean if you hear it.

8. Elliot Smith - almost every song this guy ever put out was good. If you saw Good Will Hunting, his songs were played throughout. Figure 8 is overall my favorite album of his, just because I like every single song, but the song "Needle in the Hay" from his first cd is my favorite sounding I think.

9. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. I have the "gold" disk and its really amazing. I've heard the Japanese studio release was just as good if not better in terms of the mix, but I don't know if I'd ever notice the difference. But this is an amazing sounding cd for sure.

10. Fiona Apple - every cd I have from her sounds better than the one before. Awesome voice I think too.

I am not able to be as descriptive as Adam so I won't even try.

1. El Debarge - Ultimate Collection.
2. Getz/Gilberto
3. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
4. The Very Best of Cream
5. The Best of Miles Davis & John Coltrane
6. Timbaland - Shock Value. This album has some sick tracks on it from a musical standpoint.
7. Raphael Saadiq - Gospel Delic
8. John Legend - Once Again
9. Alicia Keys - As I Am
10. Micheal Jackson - Number Ones
11. Common - Finding Forever

I have tons more, but I got out of bed just to post these...

Album....

Bob Marley - Legend

Z1 Performance Feb 11, 2008 07:31 PM

Legend is a classic. I picked up Gold a few weeks ago, even better!

If you like the old school reggea, pick up a Barrington Levy disk. There is a 20th Century Masters series disk that has all his great songs, definitely worth getting.

Get_Zwole Feb 12, 2008 01:15 AM

the new good charlotte cd is pretty good.

StreetOC192 Feb 12, 2008 02:54 AM

One of my favorite cd's that is produced and recorded very cleanly is Jethro Tull's Catfish Rising. Most of the others mentioned above I would also agree with.

Here's a good read from Rolling Stone Mag. Before you just read the title and dismiss it saying "yeah I know mp3's are crap quality", that is not what the article is about.
