Stupid question/advice needed

Looking to upgrade the sounds in my 07 350z touring. Went looking around and the first place I went to told me that I could only replace my bose speakers and such with other bose products only. Either that or I would have to pull out the entire old system, sub and amp included. Sounds like some ******** to me but then he started mumbling about amps and ohms and stuff so I turned around and went home. Some googling hasn't found anything to support dude's statement, so I I'd ask here.

Is dude blowing smoke up my ass or is there a reason Ican't upgrade piecemeal? I was looking at doing the receiver and maybe speakers, but install quotes for the receiver alone are running around 350. Is that normal? Prices are from concord, ca shops.

Sounds like you went all grumpy on information that is readily available. Do a search about this in the audio section, and you'll find the Z33 Bose system is different and cannot be upgraded in piecemeal fashion. Depending on whether you have the OEM nav system, you may also have some difficulty getting auditory directions if you replace just the headunit. Sucks, but that's just the way it was engineered.

You dont live up to your name, except the grumpy part. Dkmura is right, and to make things easier for ya....not usually my style, but happens.....bose equipment runs at a lower ohm level than after market...so the guy is right, either replace with bose, or rewire everything

my area of expertise lies outside of the automotive industry.

Thank you both for the help and the shaming

Tough love sir......

you will be better off replacing everything, BUT if you want to do just head unit, i THINK P.A.C. ( it may be just pac, cant remember spelling or abbreviation) makes a converter to bring down ohm level
