Spork's semi-SQ build
Thought I'd start this thread since I'm about ready to wrap up my system for the time being until I can start upgrading things again.
Hopefully this build can give some people an idea on a good sounding, well-priced system. Any comments, opinions, or suggestions are welcome. I've grown to love clarity and sound quality, and that's what I was going for with this. Wasn't able to drop more money on more expensive parts at the time. I know this isn't "OUTSTANDING" stuff and not top-of-the-line, but it's more than suitable for me. Didn't feel like spending the money on door pods. Wasn't looking for a setup to blow my ear drums, but rather give me clear highs, good mid-bass, and quality lows. Headunit and accessories: Kenwood DNX7120 Kenwood IP300V video iPod interface Speakers: F: MB Quart ESA-216 components R: MB Quart ESA-216 mid-bass only Zenclosure 1" speaker spacers Amplifiers: Kenwood KAC-8403 4-Channel Amp - 60w RMS x4 @ 4 ohm Alpine MRP-M350 Mono - 200w rms @ 4ohm, 350w rms @ 2ohm Amps are hidden in the space behind the seats. I like to keep it clean. Subwoofer: MB Quart RWE-252 10" Zenclosure Understrut box Sound deadening: Elemental Designs eDead V1 1/2" Cellulose foam or whatever it is, used for beds. Don't laugh, it works awesome. :icon17: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_3560.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/102_2488.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_3203.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_2592.jpg My Zenclosures sub box came today. Had to bore out the hole to 9.3" to fit the sub. Spent about an hour or so listening to different types of music and tuning it to my preferences. This sub lived up to my expectations. Quick response in double-bass songs and perfect reaction in techno/trance. Rap sounds awesome as well. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_3227.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_3229.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e5...s/100_3228.jpg |

Yeah, haha. I just didn't want to deal with placing them in my a-pillars atm. They sound fine where they're currently placed though.
HOWEVER, Greg... I'm thinking about picking up some silk-dome tweeters. :icon17: Titanium tweeters are BRIGHT. |
I can only imagine
|
Excited to get my sub in once my box gets here (Monday) to see how everything will sound.
|
Why an MB Quart sub?
|
Guess he wanted to go with MB Quarts all around to match. Active or Passive setup?
|
Passive that came bundled with the components, and using the crossovers on my headunit as well.
I went with an MB Quart sub for a couple reasons. It looks badass and matches the rest of my speakers. MB Quart is known for their SQ components, and I've read their subwoofers sound clean as well. |
If you're down here when mine is upgraded I'll let you listen to it :p
|
Oh NOS! HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY DRIVE AN RSX-S! MY REALITY IS SHATTERED!
|
Shh.. people don't have to know. :icon17:
I'll be sure to remind you Greg. I never knew you were an SQ guy. |

Dayum.
Question... With the amps I have listed... I should be fine with just running them both off the battery, right? I'd like to avoid using a capacitor unless I REALLY need one. |
You'll be fine. You won't need no capacitor or anything else.
|
What he said.
|
Yay!
|
sub looks funky
let me know how she sounds... im interested in that reverse surround |
That's one of the smaller reasons I got it. :icon17:
Looks different and has a strong rubber surround. I'm anxious to see if it stands up to MB Quart's SQ history. I'll be wiring it at 4-ohms for 200w rms. |
