DIY: Vanity Mirror LED replacement under $5

Sick of the vanity incandescent lamps screwing up you crispy white lights inside your car? Here is a quick easy fix for that under $5.

Before:
Attachment 450302

Tools needed
Some type of pliers
Razor knife
Tiny screwdriver (flat head)
31mm Festoon style led bulb ebay link
2 yellow crimp on connectors (can be purchased at any automotive store)

Attachment 450303

1. Remove the existing incandescent bulb use the tiny screwdriver to pry off the lens and pop the bulb out (be careful not to touch both sides of the metal with said screwdriver or you could pop a fuse)

2. Pry off the ends of the festoon led bulb (one came right off the other I had to bend and break the plastic lens to get it)(be careful of the circuit board and resistor)

3. Once you have the circuit board removed should look like this:

4. Cut the yellow plastic off the connectors:

5. Cut the connector with the pliers:

6. You might have to take the screwdriver and open the end you cut off so the leads will fit in the gap.

7. Bend the leads towards the back at a right angle and put the connector right up to the circuit board with the lead in opening and squeeze it together just enough to squeeze the leads so won't fall out. (could solder for a stronger hold):

8: Repeat on the other side (be careful of resistor):

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...h_fd273644.jpg

9. I had to slightly squeeze the prongs together to hold the led tightly. Lens can be a pita to put back on just take your time and don't force it.

10. Look at how bad of a job you did shaving and enjoy your crisp white lights.

Nice diy, definitely my next mod

Or, you can just buy the proper LED's for the application, and install them w/o any extra work. I got mine a few years ago from an eBay vendor. Just search for TSX visor LED's. Here's a recent example:

That's pretty good I wish they did a better job at the description. But mine is still way less expensive :)

I think this only works in 2006 onwards.

So i bought some bulbs after checking my own, i'll report back once they're fitted. No mods required hopefully.

White 3-SMD 6641 - is the LED type fitment, it's a different bulb type for filament bulbs.

Is that compatible for 2006+? If so could you post the link for the bulbs? Thanx

I honestly don't see why they would change at all, so i'll take a stab in the dark and say yes?

Here's the place i got them from, pretty fast shipping too.

Nice pics. How are they on the eyes? I was afraid the SMD ones would be too bright. Great pics. Too.

Just purchased 2 of them, one for each visor/mirror. These are pretty much replacements for the oem ones right?

What about the middle section lights? Any recommendations on those bulbs? I'd like to replace those aswell to something that matches the lights on the link you posted. Thanks guys!

These you would have to buy 2 of them. But they fit pretty good and are very bright.

Thanks, and no, the diffuser does a pretty good job so the light isn't too bright on the eyes.

That link i provided is for two bulbs, so no need for two :)

I've already done my center lights, excellent results. Got those from EBay as well, cheaper than these. Look for 9 (i think and will confirm) SMD festoon bulbs and they should fit right in there.
