Brake Systems
Which brake systems do you people like to run on your Z? I like the brembo, but the cost is up there. I know you get what you pay for but I was wondering if there was another comperible brand out there for the Z car.

Do some searching around, as well as read the FAQs. There are many systems made by Stoptech, AP Racing, Rotora, just to name a few.
Define your goals, are the brakes for looks or for performance? Happy searching :) |
With BBKs you pay for more than u get --- Its popular now and everyone has to have a BBK so they are gettin reamed $$$$$ wise. What Brake components I have which are Drilled discs,SS lines, and a good brake fluid is StopTech

They are going to be for performance more than looks. I like to stop as fast as I can accelerate.

In that case, you can get a Stoptech Stage II for under $700 if you shop around. Excellent bargain for the price!

Big brake kits won't necessarily decrease braking distances. Tires are one of the biggest contributors to how well you can stop.
Unless you're doing it for looks, or if you track your car, you don't really need a big brake kit. As mentioned the stoptech stage 2 kit is a decent upgrade for a reasonable price. For an even cheaper upgrade, just get stainless steel brake lines. Those will make the biggest difference and if you don't need new brake pads or rotors, then you won't see a huge difference between stoptech stage 2 (pads, rotors, SS lines, motul DOT 4 brake fluid) versus SS lines alone. |
I have the 14" Stoptechs and love them.

I just got the StopTech OEM Stage II for $637 shipped. Search "StopTech Stage II" and you'll find all the answer regarding it.
EDIT: Here is a link for a good amount of info: https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-suspension/196921-stoptech-stage-2-stock-caliper-upgrade-kit.html and pictures of my kit not installed: https://my350z.com/forum/south-west/213150-got-my-stoptech-kit-pics.html |
If you are just looking for more street performance, a stage kit will work great for you. There will be more heat capacity and bite from the pads. The lines will firm up the pedal.
If you want the aesthetics or plan on tracking your car, go w/ the big brake kit. The big brake kit will provide more heat capacity through the larger directional rotor. You will get an even firmer pedal feel since the calipers will be replaced with a much stiffer caliper getting rid of any sponginess. The right brake upgrade for you depends really just depends on how you use your car. |
