Wilwood or stoptech BBK
 

Anyone could advise which is better and value for money? Used on street driving and occasionally track. Looking foot 6pot front and 4 pot rear.
Read some review both are equally good bbk

What would be the "use/application" for the BBK upgrade............???

Wilwoods are the only sets you can find good info on how well they work... in general most of wilwoods products are top notch. half the price for the same performance...

When looking for a BBK the number of pots isn't the strongest or best braking.....in the end the brake master cylinder isn't changed out so consider that.....

I think the real cut of is somewhere at about 4 pot front, anymore is just getting ridiculous, especially 8, and for a track car 8 pots usually become too bulky, and limiting on wheel selection along with Heavy and limited on pad selection thur eliminating any kind of actual "functionality" of the BBK.....


Things I would look for in a BBK - as a BBK is for the track not to look purdy.
1. Size - ability to fit 17x9 and multiple wheel sets for track use - I own 18 wheels before for my Z's track use...

2. In stock pads....HPDE events will tear them up, and replacement becomes an issue.

3. Cost of replacement pads - see #2

4. Serviceability - some are not simple drop in pad style (like the Wilwoods)
to replace pads, having to remove the caliper for every pad change is crap! Drop in style or "top load" pad replacement would be a consideration.

5. Rebuild kit availability?

6. Rear Iron hat over aluminum hat (stoptech, etc) due to wanting stronger rotors and strong ebrake with project Mu shoes for drifting, hydro ebrake, etc...etc...etc....

BBK should be function over form............

I love my wilwoods 14inch rotor front 6 piston, 12.88 inch rotor rear 4 piston, I think that the overall kit weighed less than my stock brakes I pulled off. I can stop so much faster and my braking is so much smoother than the old 1 pistons.

1. I know I can fit an 18 inch wheel, but I haven't tried a 17,
2/3 I order brake pads online, but the cost is about the same as OEM brembo's (alittle over $150)

Like Classy, I too have the Wilwood 6 piston setup. I only went with the front kit, still running stock rears. But very happy with this purchase/mod. Also less expensive than Stoptech setup. I would recommend.

Customer service is awsome thru TCE, customer service thru Jason Aquino at Wilwood is also spot on. Availability is great, both can get me parts usually about 3 days for normal service, next day if needed. Price is great , $66 for street pads (also decent for trackdays) and good race pads start at $130.

I chose STOPTECH's and have been very happy with the fade free performance under heavy load (repeated braking from 130-140 mph on a short airstrip and continuous driving on mountain roads). I have 6 pot front and 4 pot rear 14" rotors. Pad selection options are excellent. All that aside, I have never heard anything negative about Wilwood either.

wilwoods are nice because you can some pretty low disks for more lip on the wheels. Check out marcus cooke's new setup.

That's SSR's normal(low) disk in front with a BBK, 4.1" lip up front!

I've been running my Wilwoods for a few years now, absolutely love them. I originally got them because they were a very good value compared to other BBKs. I bought them from Todd at TCE Performance (referenced above in this thread). Todd is super knowledgable and helpful he would be able to answer any question you had about the Wilwoods or BBKs in general. I've autocrossed with them once (my ride height was much higher back then...LOL) and they held up very well throughout the day.

As Danh noted, the low profile of the Wilwoods allowed me to get a large lip up front given that it clears a lower disk. And the rears will clear the lowest disk with no prob.

If your using the brakes on the track then Stoptech has an infinite number of pad choices since they use Porsche pads. Everyone has a pad for Porsche calipers.

You also don't need anything more than 4 piston front or 2 piston rear. The only advantage of a bigger caliper is that you can fit larger pads for longer pad life for endurance racing. The 4/2 setup is also lighter which lowers unsprung mass.

As i mentioned above, Todd at TCE is the person to call. There are cheaper kits out there, but Todd sell factory Wilwood kits. You don't want to buy from some hack shop that sells piece together kits with all different parts.

I will have to take a picture, but my XXR 521's 18x10 +25 I had to trim the wanna be 2 piece wheel screws down to clear the caliper

I offer the full line of Wilwood kits and product as well as my own spin on this popular kit; a W6A caliper shod version of the 14" front kit. Achieved by removing the BSL6 and replacing it with the newer and larger W6A and pads I then substitute the TCE radial mount bracket for mounting it. The W6A however due to size will require roughly 3/16" more spoke clearance than that of the BSL6. (making it an unlikely fit on SSRs above as I think they'd be just to tight to that inner radius)

I was looking through the BBK thread and didn't seen any pics of this W6A caliper installed? Any one have any picks of this set up? I'm thinking of going willwood also!
