Akebono caliper with COZ bracket pad contact issue
I have had the Akebonos from a G37S on my Z for over a year. Initially I had eBay brackets and Adams rotors. I got a steal on a pair of DBA 2 peice rotors and just in case figured I'd get the COZ brackets.
There was a bit of untouched rotor before, now it is much larger. Old: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o/e7601097.jpg New: Passenger side http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o/d36a25a9.jpg Driver side: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o/5eebdee0.jpg The back side is about the same as the old rotor. My question is does anyone know of a pad that extends down towards the hub further, currently I have EBC Red Stuff pads. Thanks |
I would think that all pads would be the same size and one shouldn't extend farther than another, but I could be wrong.
Is it possible to adjust the bracket so you coverage is more even? It seems that's where you're problem is. |
Nope, the bracket is where it goes and there is nothing I can do about it.
I might put the eBay back. |
you swapped rotors. One may have a larger disk than the other giving you the illusion that the pad is not covering as much as with the old bracket.
Measure the rotors and the contact area. |
I'll measure the old rotor later but they look the same size to me.

Everything else being the same, it's gotta be the bracket then
|
Swept area on DBA looks noticeably wider than swept area on old rotors. That's the measurement that matters. In other words looks
Like DBA has more disk, less hub |
Thanks Adam. Do you think it is a problem having so much disk untouched?
I am concerned it is not heating up as designed and that that may cause warping. |

^Thank you too!

Many aftermarket rotors use *generic* discs to start (to fit many applications as possible) and so you may have a LARGER potential SWEPT area. That is evident in your picks. Rotors are same size, but the pads will leave a larger unswept surface on the new rotors. Gives the illusion of pads not being properly placed on the disc....they are.;)

Coz responded to my email. He said Nissan paints that area to keep them from rusting and it's normai.
