Well Wednesday wasn't fun....

Pulled the driver side rear wheel off Wednesday to change the E-Brake Shoes and to my surprise I find this.

My Brembo Caliper was ground down due to the PO putting the wheel on without a spacer. I didn't notice until I took the wheels off for the E-Brake because the spacers were on at that point.
As you can guess I was not in a good mood.
So, on to the good news, the new Brembo Caliper should be here tomorrow by noon or 1pm! :icon21:

You couldn't head it

SR71 Dec 20, 2012 08:18 PM

That doesn't look like its from not using a spacer, it looks like he (previous owner) ran a smaller wheel (winter set up) and they didn't clear. Probably ran a 17" or 16" and rubbed until it cleared.

Unbelievable

Turn the heavy metal down...

805350z Dec 20, 2012 08:19 PM

It was probably like that when he bought it. The PO must have been deaf.

Good point!

Jeez though, mdidnt notice it when washing the car?

It was like that when I bought the car. I didnt find it until Wednesday until I took the wheels off.

I'm guessing it's from a spare tire being used. If it's only on one side!

I don't know what it was for sure, but it was still a major PITA!

805350z Dec 20, 2012 09:50 PM

OP, Check your spare tire to see if it was the cuplrite

T_Scott Dec 20, 2012 09:54 PM

I will tomorrow, when my caliper gets here

This doesn't make sense to me.

First off, why would Nissan give you a spare that doesn't clear the calipers? :dunno:

Second, what's the difference between running it for a day or a month? The clearance isn't going to change. :dunno:

I haven't had to use my spare yet, but I highly doubt it was caused from the spare. Like I said, I don't believe Nissan would give you a spare that doesn't clear the caliper. Unless the last owner used a sparre that wasn't meant for the car or like SR71 stated, it's from a different set of wheels.

Also, like King stated, how did you not notice when washing your car? I always make the brembos nice and pretty.

stilez Dec 21, 2012 07:48 AM

If it was still working at the time you removed it, bet you could sell it. Might ease the pain of purchasing a new one.

T_Scott Dec 21, 2012 08:42 AM

It was still working, it's just in terrible shape. It's not safe at all and I wouldn't feel right selling it or even just giving it to anyone to use. Plus the Brembos were aftermarket and so I'm not sure about the spare.

oldschool350z Dec 21, 2012 08:48 AM

Damn man :/

DavesZ#3 Dec 21, 2012 08:53 AM

None of this makes any sense. For that amount of interference, the wheel would not have fit straight and would have wobbled severely (assuming it would rotate). Not to mention that if the PO would have tightened the lug nuts enough, it would have "locked" the wheel in place and wouldn't even turn.

T_Scott Dec 22, 2012 08:07 AM

Caliper came in yesterday. Replaced E-Brake shoes and put on the new caliper. Car feels much more solid and stops a tad bit better aha

acke15 Dec 22, 2012 01:13 PM

Pics of the wheels?

T_Scott Dec 22, 2012 04:59 PM

Spare tire was the culprit. It has a ring around the inside where it is scratched and gouged to hell.
