BTW, it works better on a recently waxed surface. Meguiar's says if the QD is tough to apply and remove, you need to wax.
Do you dust the car off before using the QD on it?

Absolutely! Use a Calfornia car duster first before using the QD.

My rule is that if I can see dust, I don't touch. I have only used the QD once, and it was the morning on the day after I had washed, so there was no visible dust. Also, I used the 2 rag method, one to apply and one to buff. The first rag picked up a bit of black soot/dust, the 2nd rag was clean after buffing. So far there are no scratches or blemishes.

I think that using the UQD every day will get old. So, I am going to pick up a Cali Duster so that I can keep the car more dust free, and if I decide to use the UQD, I won't risk rubbing stuff into my paint. Do you ever see marks from using the Cali Duster?

Do you guys use quick detailers immediately after every wax job, or do you alternate every time you wash?

Ok, yesterday I used my California Duster for the first time. I washed my car on Friday night last week, so 3 days later... the duster worked perfectly, the light layer of dust on my car was sucked up without a scratch. I was really careful to touch lightly, and I examined the paint after each pass to make sure it was working like advertised. Very impressed with the results.

After that, I used the UQD on the entire surface, and specifically to remove some bird splatter and some water spots from the light sprinkle we had over the weekend. To finish up, I used NXT Spray Wax to give the car a just-waxed shine So far today, the car looks diamond; no scratches from the process. It took about an hour and 45 minutes, but I was being careful and looking at my work after each section to make sure I wasn't marring the surface. Next time will be much more efficient.

I used it after my last wax 2 weeks back, so can't really say if I use it everytime after I wax. But I probably will, because this stuff repels water like no other!

I gave up on the California Dusters. I just threw 2 of them away last weekend. I use Swiffer Dusters and replace the Swiffer part after each use.

Yeah, saw this for the first time a couple days ago. Beaded up so nicely....water refused to stick to the car. And when driving..the water just slides right off, doesn't get nearly as dirty in the rain.

I think you were supposed to use the UQD after you applied the wax. The UQD needs to be the very top layer. It's supposed to be used in between regular washing and waxing, not used prior to waxing. Just a heads up. I'd suggest going out and respraying the car to add that layer.

I just did a baby-detail to my car too:

Dusted
Mother's Showtime Detailing Spray to clean up the paint
Meguiar's Spray Wax
Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer

I read somewhere that if you wrap up the California Duster in newspaper and leave it overnight, it will suck up the excess parafin. I did and it helped a lot.

Yeah, it says that one the card that comes with it. I did it for 24 hours, and I don't get any excess wax on the car.

I agree. If there is dust, its more harmful to dust it off with the brush than just letting it sit and wash the car.

I read this as well, let my duster sit for 2 days, and haven't seen any wax residue. What I meant was had anyone seen scratches from using it, like if the dust was being ground in or anything?

Arnold K: I know what you mean; next time I quick detail, I will use the 3 step Detailer - wax- detailer combo. I just got really tired of rubbing my car!!!

Honestly, I've never seen any scratches on my car from using the Cali Duster.

My G35 got scratches from one that was NEW. It was tossed. Of course it was black. You won't see scatches from one of those on a silver car.

I show my car all summer long and I use meguier's quick detailer when I get there to wipe down my car and I have to say it is my new best friend. I use it to wipe down my custom painted wheels and my whole car. I dont use it as a replacement wax but just as a way to get the car clean for the show. I like them and they work good for what they do. Give you a shine inbetween waxes. I was at a meet in PA recently and one guy was joking with another about how he still had white residue in the cracks of his car and it still felt rough. He then went to my car and looked and it and rubbed his hand over it and told me I did a good wax job. I told him I use the QD and he was amazed and I used the burgandy bottle by the way.

yup, any dark colored cars, most of you guys, even myself, dont' have super high quality microfibers so the paint will get scratched and marred. People still don't believe me when i say that the duster will scratch the paint. It will show on black. Other cars, you can't even tell.

The UQD is so much smoother then other quick detailers. It covers swirl marks too!

I check my car under high wattage halogen lighting. I detail on the side and I know what marring looks like. A duster, correctly used with minimal pressure does not mar the surface.
