Default first time with slicks

Well i finally got my hands on a pair of slicks. Im just a bit nervous cause i've never launched on slicks and im not sure how to start. Just asking for a little advice from the big dogs in here (jeremy, alberto, davidv, etc) sorry if i didnt mention your name if your one of the big dogs in here First thing, i once tried to remove the brake fuse but it didnt work? Not sure if i removed the proper one. Second, what psi should i be at? Thrid, what rpm should i launch with out breaking anything? And last one, i suck at burnouts in the staging pad, any advice?

I know that I'm no "big dog" that everybody loves to ***-kiss, but I thought I would still try to help. I am doing as well, if not better than most drag racers, with less mods in worse conditions, so I can't be that bad.

Your first "question" isn't exactly a question. There are threads here that can help you out with brake fuse issue.

The psi for your tires are dependent on you and your car. Try 15 psi or so and adjust from there by inflating if you bog and deflating if you spin. A different launch method may also be necessary in addition to adjusting the tire pressure.

Again, your launch is dependent on you and your car. But, for ***** and giggles, start out at 4K rpm and find what works for you.

As for burnouts, I haven't figured that one out yet. I can't do standing, smokey burnouts (too little power?), but I still warm the tires up enough to cut a 1.8.

yeah im able to burn the tire just a bit by reving up past 3k and then dumping the clutch just to get the dirt off the tires but i've never pulled off a huge burn out

i dont have a 1/4 mile time slip cause the nearest track around here is an 1/8 of a mile track. the nearest 1/4 mile track is 2hrs away and i dont feel like making that drive right now.

That is some serious rubber for a naturally aspirated 350Z. Best wishes.

Sorry but no. I have never tried slicks. If you left off the clutch, and the rear axle is all in one piece, you should be fine.

I sense some discomfort in using slicks/dr's here Dave. Have you ever tried using something other then street tires? I would like to use a set of BFG's or perhaps another semi street/drag radial only because of how poorly my track is usually prepped, and feel this could be the only way to get a more respectable 60'.

With those slicks, I'd be launching off the rev-limiter ... seriously!

I launch @ 6000 with a 150 shot out the hole with 245 Hoosier DR's. I can pretty much guarantee if you don't launch above 5500 you won't get the true benefit from your awesome looking set-up!

Lastly, if your worried about breaking stuff, sell that **** to me

So you think I should just go ***** to the wall and launch like a bat out of hell...lol. What p.s.i. should i start at and what p.s.i. should not go lower than? And should I just dump the clutch or slowly let it out and feather it? Sorry for all the noob question but this is seriously my first time with some serious rubber underneath my car.

I run those same rims/tires on my Z at countyline... Im no expert, but I have ran some nice times there at the 1/8... There is a brake fuse called stomp lamp next to the clutch that you will need to pull so u can do burn outs... Just pull the fuse then press in your brake, if the back brakes dont light up your good to go... On the burnout, Pass over the water then stop like 2 feet after you have passed over the water and rev it up to about 5,500 and dump the clutch then hold down the brakes... let it burn for like 5 seconds and then let the brake go and let the car move foward while still pressing the accelerator... Once you line up at the light, Rev to 5,000 and hold the clutch right at the point of engagement... Once that light turns green let the clutch go and stomp the gas... Thsi is what I do, and it works for me... Hope this helps

Hey drap, your still letting it out slowly with your leg though, its not a straight side step or dump on the clutch is it?

Either way, your still using a stock clutch, and its still in good shape? What kinda 60's do you get aswell? Sorry for all the questions, but I think they are useful.

I am on stock clutch, well, not for long... Just got my ACT clutch and flywheel combo... My stock clutch would slip only while on the juice... My all motor launches could have used some work aswell... Only ran the car 4 times so couldnt really get a feel for the track...

All motor best
8.71
83mph
1.93 0-60

Spraying alittle of 2nd and all of 3rd with 75 shot (125 started to slip clutch)
8.32
92mph
2.0 0-60 (the reason why my 0-60 was slower is because when I turn the U-tec to my nitrous my map it pulls timing and the car gets slower all motor... And like I said I was unable to launch on slicks and spray, clutch would just slip)

My buddy with a Cobra (which I always beat in a rolling race) was running 7.7 at 96.5mph... Im sure with a nice clutch and spraying my 125 from the dig and through the gears I should dip into the high 7's atleast

Hey tany, ar those 10 inch slicks or 8 1/2? Are they 26 inches tall or 28?
