can a stock z be faster than a stock z?

ok, I have a friend with a 07 with just a custom exhaust running a 13.6 @102mph and I have a 08 with a stillen intake and topspeed exhaust running 14.2 @99mph. the thing is we both took off at the same time and when he went into 2nd he was gone. kept pulling and left me behind. his car is stock. I would of thought we would just be even because I also raced a new mustang that night and he beat me, but he never pulled on me, he just had a better takeoff. my friends 07 pulled. any ideas?

dave079 06-21-2008 11:27 PM

Better driver?

Hopefully all racing was done on a track

costilla 06-21-2008 11:36 PM

yeah it was at track. I thought about the driver, but it still puzzles me cause we both shifted at the same time. he doesn't know either because he has beaten other z's. he stated that a mechanic told him when he purchased the car, to drive it hard so the ecu can adjust to it. so he went to the track with only 240miles on the car and ran it hard. I don't know.

SOOOOOOOOOOO, he didn't break it in?

Denum 06-21-2008 11:47 PM

Probably that intake of yours or your driving. Stock intake gives more power than a stillen as far as i know.

Lol wtf... 240 miles and pushing it hard? I don't think thats a positive, will ruin your car. Break-in method in your manual states clearly how to break in and its not pushing your car but keeping it under 4,000~5,000 rpm/not driving for too long/different speeds/ect.

Two reasons, possibly a third....
1) OEM intakes on HR > Aftermarket
2) HR's after break in period are slightly stronger.

and 3) Driver, Driver error.. etc

I don't get how replacing the stock intake box with a kn will lose power. I still have the stock hose with the stillen intake. maybe I still don't know how to drive my car yet. I came from a ff drive focus and this is my first rwd high power car.

Stogge 06-22-2008 09:02 AM

I may be in right field on this one but... I have heard, and actually seen in the past, that cars vary on the amount of Hp that they have from the factory. I don't think that all engines are created equal....

It won't lose power. You lose power if you replace the intakes with aftermarket. Replacing the filters is a good thing.

fabcas311 06-22-2008 09:10 AM

other driver weighs a ton?imo..

MDHRZ 06-22-2008 09:13 AM

...and who tracks their car with 240 miles on it...wtf?

davidv 06-22-2008 09:22 AM

You lost to a better driver.

Scan and post the time slip. Without a time slip we may as well be fishing for angels.

twitch579 06-22-2008 10:31 AM

Is he powershifting? I would lose the intakes and get K&N dropin's.

Your car seems really slow with that trap. Should be higher in a HR.

Spork 06-22-2008 11:00 AM

14.2 @ 99mph is a bit slow on an HR. What rpm are you shifting at? How good are your starts? How quick are your shifts?

If you shift slower than your friend, that lost momentum in-between shifts works against you.

Also, what trim levels are your guys' cars? a Base vs. Grand Touring or something would cause a difference IMO.

SniperHunter 06-22-2008 11:15 AM

Too many variables.

You live Texas, so it must've been a hot day - coupled with the fact that you have an aftermarket intake is a bad, bad combo.

How much do you weigh? How much does he weigh?

What trim do you have? What trim does he have? (Touring, Grand Touring, Base?)

How much gas did you have in your car? How much did he have in his car? Do you fill up using 87/89 or premium 90+?

What was your tire pressure? What was his tire pressure?

You also said this is your first RWD, and you're coming from a Focus. Things like this are important to note. ;)

And if you're really curious go again, this time let him drive your car and you drive his, see the results.
